I had this made for me a few years ago from Ron Leuschen of Little Hen Knives. Unfortunately it got beat up a bit during a move from Texas to Michigan, and hasn't been oiled in a while.

My design, O-1 steel, curly maple haft. I was inspired by the Magua hawk from Last of the Mohicans for the haft, and the head is just something I came up with. The inscription is the Ojibewa word for Grandmother (my Great Grandmother is Chippewa), Nimishoomis.

Hubba hubba, what is this hawk?

That's a custom request made for me by Fort Turner. It's just a larger version of their Iroquois Hawk they made for me and I put the head on one of my hand-carved hafts made from a sledgehammer handle.

Specs:

handle length: 23"
cutting edge: 3.75"
head length: 6.75"

It's light, quick, very sharp, and very tough. I really like Dana Turner's forging as he forges them thin but not too thin; the bits are just the right thickness IMO. The internal dimensions of the eye are a very subtle taper which allows a good strong grip on the haft when you have it tapped in good and tight. Good stuff.

Lately I've been thinking about having him make me another one, but with a hammer poll.

It looks a lot different to the Iroquois hawk to me, much more of a beard, it seems.
Just looking at the site it has an almost straight line, I really like the curve there.

It does but there's a bit of variation with anything hand made. I requested a larger version of the Iroquois model and gave the lengths I wanted for the head and the cutting edge and got exactly that. The extra curve on the beard wasn't something I had thought of and it was a pleasant surprise. It's sharp and hooks very well.

This should give you an idea.

On the left is a CS Rifleman's Hawk
in the middle is the original FT Iroquois I felt was too small
on the right is the larger one I requested
