OFFICIAL NY Custom Knife Show thread: post all related questions/info here.

I was just about to have dinner - - then I saw Phill's pics. My meal plans are now on hold.

I'll be there Sat. for sure.

Look forward to seeing you guys. Even you, Phill.

I'll be there when the doors open on Friday, can't stay for other days though. Hoping to walk out with large examples of Busse's and Striders :) If nothing big is there, I will just sit depressed for the rest of the weekend.

Dave,
I am way too battered to lift anymore, but sure NEVER been to your league. Man, it is SO refreshing to see a MAN, a Genuine LIFTER that does not need to pop his thigh with anabolics or even the Herbal crap. I had a young officer, Buff, worked out six hours a day, seven days a week. Six months into his "probation" his attitude changed. real short fuse, nasty disposition. This kid was a consumate diplomat. Got serious and all of a sudden he became very ill. seems the "new Gym" he joined all were into Mass by means of Roids. Got lucky and before he had an on-duty "Roid-rage" we got him clean, and of course he had to find his way home and new employment. Happily he is a BIG BOY, NOT as big as he was, but now drug-free and happy and a Truly hard worker. God Bless ya Dave, I hope it is becoming rarer and rarer, and more competitions start Roid testing for EVERY-ONE......NOW, PLEASE don't beat me up!!!!!! wolf
Oh yeah knife content....See ya in NY. I owe ya a Beer!!!! (knife content Spark)

Is it time for the show yet?

Edited to remove confusion. Now, if I could only unconfuse myself...

Brian,

Thanks for getting the labels out for everyone.

I can never stay at the show long enough for a group dinner. Maybe this show we can all break for lunch??

I am heading out to the show now, I want to get a good spot on the line;) If you are having trouble finding me, I'll be the one throwing tomahawks around the lobby.

Ok, I been sitting in front of this hotel for a few days now, gotta have a good spot in line :)

You'd think after having been to this show 21 years in a row I wouldn't still get so excited. Seems to be getting worse. My name is Dave, I'm a knifeaholic...........

Looking forward to again seeing those I know & meeting those I don't.
Brian & Ebbtide- bring your Sandbar Bowies: Group shot for Newt.
Should be a good time.

Hey guys,

I'll have my Digital camera with me, so if anyone would like me to take a picture of something at the show for you, just come up to me and ask. I will take the pics for ya and email them to you. Honestly, don't be afraid to ask.

"The air is humming and something great is coming."

It's the NYCKS, and KnifeKnuts are singing and dancing in the streets, snapping their fingers and ready to see all the goodies the makers and manufacturers have to offer.

Let the good times roll! :D

Hi all. Think I'm gonna try to go to this one, it'll be my first. So:

1) Can I bring in some of my knives with me (in a knapsack), for sale or trade with other collectors?

2) Do the makers there consider trade-ins for other models of their knives?

3) Are factory manufacturers represented and do they negotiate or is everything fixed?

4) Any other questions I should ask regarding procedures and protocalls?

Thanks.

1) Sure, but you just have to be discreet about it. Naturally, the promoters don't want non-exhibitors selling at their show. The lobby generally sees a lot of show & tell as well as trading action. What are you thinking of bringing?

2) While I've never heard of makers taking trade-ins, I guess it's possible. I know that some custom dealers are occasionally open to such deals.

3) Spyderco & I believe Benchmade will be there. I'm not sure about others. Prices are generally @ MSRP.

4) You may want to do a few searches regarding custom show protocols. There have been a few threads in the past on the subject covering issues such as asking before picking up a piece, haggling prices, etc.

Be sure to stop by the American Tomahawk Company table to pick up a BF name tag... not to mention, handle some really cool hawks.
