To answer some questions that I've seen
The Bladesports tarheel cut that we are sponsoring will be at 11:00 AM on Saturday. Safety meeting at 10:30. Probably take a couple hours.
Unlike last year, the cut that we are sponsoring is not at some festival, it will be here at the compound.
Immediately after the cut, there will be some cutting demonstrations, some discussion about cutting, and we're going to turn you guys loose on the course. After you sign a waiver. And come to grips with the fact that if you get hurt, we have this cool creek bed I want to show you. We might have some practice time. But eventually, when we get our shit together, we will do the Outlaw cut. First prize will be $500 cash or some kind of a knife. Second prize will be a $150. 3rd is $50. I should make some metals or something. But I probably won't.
Entry fee for the Outlaw cut is $50. This helps us pay for materials and stuff and puts a dent in the purse. You'll get to cut stuff. It's more fun than most people expect.
Probably order some pizza or something.
After the Outlaw cut, I'm going to grill some meat for folks who want to hang out and join us for a small impromptu knife show where Tanto Quantavius and his evil big brother Rasmus have made a few interesting pieces that some folks might be interested in. I will be incredibly tired by this point and also slightly drunk and administer the most fucked up version of rock paper scissors anyone has ever seen and we will proceed to sell off a few knives. Including at least one pig sword. And some other kind of a sword I don't remember. It was pokey. And more knives. Probably. I'm also trying to convince a few makers that I like to come out and put some stuff on some of the tables so hopefully there will be some other stuff there too.
There's going to be some kind of a YouTube guy there shooting video of the Bladesports parts of this. I haven't met them (it's a Bladesports thing, Jo and Ben have talked to them) but I'm told they're pretty cool. I'll invite them to hang out with us. They may or may not record some of our shenanigans, idunno. I'll remind them that we're here to have a good time and they need to lay low and stay out of our hair.
Last year was spread out over two days. This year will be just one day so that folks who want to catch both races can do so in a single trip.
So, this opens the possibility of a Sunday with some other activities.
At the very least, is going to be Friday night before the cut and Saturday night after the cut here at the compound with a campfire, a wet bar, cigars, food, and possibly (if we're lucky) Yoko.
There are three pretty nice campsites available. One down by the creek, another overlooking another part of the creek, and one in the top corner of the back 40 in the corner near the woods out of the way for somebody who might want some privacy.
There are a couple other areas that could be used as well if we get more campers then we have slots.
Activities for Sunday might include shooting at a beer cap from 20 yards for money. I'm thinking, everybody puts in a hundred bucks and the first person to hit the beer cap gets the whole thing (unless someone in the same round also hits their beer cap, in which case it would be split). So bring your most accurate pistol. Unless it's a .22. Don't bring a .22 I will mock you. I will be competing with a full power 10 mm. Mark will too. We will probably take your money. If you want to borrow one of our firearms, you're more than welcome. But I still plan to take your money. Folks who are not experienced with firearms will be asked to sit this one out. I want to try to keep this safe.
The course will be here the whole time so if somebody wants to try it out on Friday night Saturday night Sunday morning whatever. It's here, let me know.
No discharging firearms unless I'm present. No discharging firearms on Saturday while everybody is here and trying to relax.
Keep your campfires small, and make me aware of them beforehand.
There will be a porta potty, and there is a sink with soap and hot water in the shop.
Last year it was my intent to have beer, whiskey, cigars, and all the accoutrements you fine modern gentleman fellas have come to expect. But I was pretty wiped out and I just never set it up. I'm going to try to remember to set this stuff up again this year and maybe I'll do a better job. If I do, and you find yourself having a nice time, consider putting a few bills in the jar to pay for next year.
The steak is pretty good too.
It would be helpful to have an accurate count of how many people plan to eat so I can make sure to get enough meat
