SpyderNation [knife club] A Web of Spyderco Enthusiasts
General Information
Alright, So we are a few days away from coming out with a Sign up thread along with a Requirement fulfillment thread and I believe its time to come out with some general info regarding SpyderNation, what it is about, who can join, and what is expected of its members. I am FCM415 and I am onboard with the process of developing this club from an idea into fruition along with 9Blades and BladeChick 777 and with plenty of contributions from many others who pitched in ideas as well as votes.
Inception:
Forum member 9Blades started a thread inquiring if anyone would be interested in a Spyderco club. When I first read it, I was like yeah whatever. After reading a few positive replies which included ideas for group names, I threw one in there also. The thread began to gain momentum, and next thing you know it, I was in the thick of things all into it. Its reception has been quite positive and plenty have shown their interest and support.
Group Name:
We ran a poll to name the group. There were plenty of great ideas, but we can only have one. The winner by popular vote was rejected because it was realized that the name may be out of place. We still honored the poll however and your votes counted for something. SpydercoNation it is.
Purpose:
The most asked question so far has been, what is its purpose? Whats the point? You wouldnt want to be a member of something pointless right? In its simplest terms, membership recognizes you to the rest of BladeForums as a Spyderco enthusiast, one who like their products and are a friend to the brand. Folks who like contributing and help people out on the forums are ideal traits to have for this club. Concerns have been voiced over the possibility over the group taking a more unfavorable direction, something which we will further discuss down below.
SpyderNation is a fan based club and is not connected to Spyderco in any official way. I felt compelled to reach out to Sal to see if we can have his blessing in creating this club here on BF. He has given it the green light but I surely do not want to let him down by defacing Spydercos reputation as a class act. Your reading into how Sal goes about with his business should start with this: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/473877-Questionable-tag-lines-amp-shiny-footprints. It would be more a benefit to Spyderco for us to be a positive force, and feel that becoming a negative force will defeat the purpose of this club in which case Id rather see it dissolved. Having this club open is a privilege and not a right on BF and Sal along with the mods can shut it down at any time with no warnings. Spyderco does not NEED a club and will do fine without one.
There will be no leaders in this club, and having one would just be too funny (other than Sal and Eric which is entirely honorary at this point). There will be day to day issues the club may have to deal with which is why I am proposing one or a few people at a time to be charged with the oversight of the club. We will dub it as a troubleshooter. Anyone (presuming you got adult sense) has a chance to be one. How it gets decided is up in the air for now, Ill edit it in. I volunteered with helping organize this club and hope that my turn is done once we reach our goal of getting this really going.
