Official W&SS Koster Neck Knife Order Thread

nope. Have they been shipped? It should only take 2-3 days for priority mail to arrive at most places in the US, if shipped from Arkansas. I would have expected delivery yesterday if mine were shipped on Monday.

The good news is.....I am all packed up and heading home and the first bunch of W&SS neckers hit the mail on Monday.

Thanks for understanding, guys!

Have they shipped? Sure they have..... see above.
You know how slow the old USPS can be....... ;)

I didn't make it to the post office until this morning, guys....sorry. I have had a million things to do....including putting together the rest of the neck-knives...had to go out of town just to get tubing for the handles...pain in the rear, but had to be done. The good news is, the skeletonized and green-canvas-micarta versions are on their way (unless you also had another knife....then I'm holding it to combine with the first).

Sorry about the mixup!

Is it too late to get on the list for a NCM one to match my Survivor? Or perhaps extras will be available at the end of the run if the sign-up phase is over?

I just got mine in the mail!

It's nice and small and fits well in the hand. It's not very sharp, but I can fix that up fine. I really like the ergos. It's what I was hoping: a small, sturdy useful knfe.

I only got the knife, though. I had ordered the extra belt sheath, also. Dan, are you shipping the belt sheaths seperately?

Thanks!

I received both of mine today (one plain, one w/ green canvas micarta grips). I like the overall design/size of the knives. Grind lines are good, but not great (the grind lines are higher one side, on both knives. Neither came really sharp (which would be my biggest concern)- they would cut copy paper, but not newsprint, and neither would shave. A bit of time on a ceramic rod & leather strop improved both immensely. The shape of the blade seems very functional - enough point to drill, but the tip appears pretty strong.

The sheaths are a simple fold-over design, that hold both knives securely, but they are still easily removed. The sheaths are made from fairly thin (.060") kydex or concealex. The design is nice & compact, with no added bulk.

I noted a significant discoloration to the handle scales where they are covered by the kydex when sheathed - I can't tell if it's burned micarta, or stained by something else. It appears it may be WD40 (from the odor) - possibly used as a cleaning agent? It doesn't affect the function at all, but is a little annoying, cosmetically.

The micarta scales make for a comfortable hold, in a variety of grips. The grips themselves are generally symmetrical, but are not perfect.

Both renditions are fairly lightweight & compact, and the skeleton version makes a very thin package.

All said, nice knives with a few rough points. If I had to choose one, I would keep the one w/ the micarta scales. It's a comfortable little knife, and after first impressions seems like a really good size/shape for everyday tasks. I'm looking forward to some actual field use.

I just received my knife as well. Maybe it's just being the proud papa of a new blade, but I'm loving it. I did shave my arm with it. I've got a very visible bald spot that attests to how sharp mine came. I'm going to rub some mineral oil into the handle to bring out the details. Thanks Dan!

There are extras....I don't know how many just yet. I will be sure to post here when I am finished with all the pre-orders.

I only spec-ed the kydex sheath....maybe I missed something? I don't remember offering a leather sheath. If you mean a kydex sheath on the belt....then this one will indeed do it with a TekLok...I set it up using the TekLok carry layout. Let me know.

So your's did not come with any sheath?

every knife comes with a kydex sheath set up for TekLok carry.

These are neck-knives though....able to adapt to belt/pocket carry.

Thanks for the honest review.

The "stain" on the micarta is simply WD-40 that has not yet evaporated (being under the sheath). Store the blade out of the sheath for a couple days and it will even out....or (and this is what I recommend) hit the whole handle with mineral oil or WD-40, etc and keep the entire handle that color.

I don't know what happened with the sharpening....(?)

I tested every blade before I sent it out and I don't send knives out that can't shave hair (that being one of the tests). So, who knows....

I sharpen in a "polished toothy" way....meaning, the blade will be able to draw cut as well as it can push-cut...(something that highly-polished edges cannot offer)....and it is definitely a "working" edge.

If anybody is unhappy I will gladly resharpen for free and pay shipping both ways.

I'm not above error, nor unreasonable...and would prefer you guys enjoy the knives as much as I do!

hi Dan,

The edge on both looked great - nicely polished, but would barely cleanly cut copy paper, and just tore newspaper. Both are much improved after some light sharpening & stropping

The scales (I edited my post) do smell of wd40, and I will probably hit them w/ some mineral oil.

I really like the overall design of both the knife & the sheath. The only thing I noticed that would affect function was the sharpness - everything else is aesthetics.

Thanks for answering my question Dan. I thought they came with the kydex cover, that is all I wanted to know.

stieg - by all means if you ordered one, let's get you hooked up with one!

I'll make one from an extra knife I've got here - the fit should be nearly the same. Just keep (or toss) the kydex sheath that came with it.

Thanks!

Dan
