Apologies for another Grylls thread, but I've searched the previous ones and this seems to be new.

On 15th May 2007 Bear made claims on his website that he had become the first man to fly over Mount Everest by powered paraglider. This claim is now being challenged by just about everyone who was there, including the company that provided the logistical support and obtained the flight permit.

Edit: and a very different account courtesy of Mr Grylls here http://www.gknmissioneverest.com/

why cant everyone leave bear alone, he hasnt done anything wrong,
ok hes different to ray mears but then dont we need a change from time to time. Cant everyone find someone else to pick on.

Poor little Bear! That's not the only thing he's got his tail in a crack over lately. There are another couple of news blurbs out on him in the past day or two.

...“I was looking over the summit of Mt Everest down into Tibet,” Bear said. That would only have been possible if the world was flat. ...

So, the world ISN'T flat? Who knew.

One or two more stunts like this and I am going to switch sides and become a diehard fan just to be contrary.

He sure is getting attention whether negative or positive and driving up his ratings. Brilliant!

Bear has a son named Marmaduke. Poor kid.

We'll see where this paraglider thing goes. Mistakes could have been made (cough). I once followed a guy to the summit of a peak, only to learn afterwards that we actually climbed the wrong mountain, and most likely not the Colorado fourteener he said we climbed. Maybe Bear fly over the wrong peak, and thought it was Everest. It could happen. (Yes, I say that with tongue in cheek).

Sorry but in my books claiming a "successful record breaking flight" and "the first man to fly over Mount Everest by powered paraglider" when he didn't is wrong.

I don't give a hoot about his antics on his TV programmes, and I've never posted about them, but when he starts declaring world firsts and record breaking, it is an insult to the genuine explorers and pioneers, many of whom have died in pursuit of pushing boundries.

whats the point in picking on him? tell me. what because he uses cheap knives? because he puts himself at risks? because he eats animal raw?
No, you dont like him because you cant stand to have someone new on the scene. and i am not a fanboy i just dont see the point of going on about afew mistakes some guy makes on his programs, pathetic.

The Associated Press is reporting that Senate Majority leader Harry Reid has blamed Bear Grylls for global warming, roadside bombs and gas prices.
