OH NO! ANOTHER 3 KNIFE LIST!

For a dress knife probably a traditional like a buck 301
Edc spyderco tenacious
And fixed blade probably a kabar lil finn or something similar.

I don't usually use a fixed blade so one of these would suffice.
Interesting thread to see everyone's answer. A budget knife for one person may be something that for others could be something out of reach
Just really neat to see the replies

Yeah, answers have been all over the map. Kinda fun to see that.

I don't use a fixed blade very much either but I can see a need for one. I've never seen the Kabar you write about but people swear by the brand so I guess it should be a decent knife.

I've owned a Spyderco Tenacious and have Buck's little stockman knife. Both are fine products. I think my Buck is the smaller version of your 301.

GF: small Sebenza 21 UG S35VN prettiest piece of pocket jewellery I own.
EDC: Spyderco Gayle Bradley M4 needs no description
FB: 7" Hinderer Fieldtac D2 heavy chunk of toughness

Hmmm...

Dress: Kizer Gemini
EDC: ZT 0562
Fixed: ESEE 3

The Gemini is also a hell of a great user.

I wish I could start over with the money I've spent on knives. I purchased a lot of high end garbage knives, wish I could get that money back!

If we are talking budget folding knives.
Byrd Meadowlark 2 - I have found it has surprising edge retention, plus ease of sharpening
Ontario RAT 2 in D2 - Great EDC
Real Steel Sea Eagle - Smoothest flipping knife for the money
If I could find an Elmax PM2, I'd definitely buy one of those!
Then some nice fixed blades - Survive GSO 4.1 new spec, GSO 5.1 new spec, Carothers medium chopper, and a custom 3V slimline machete. I have others, but those 4 are the fixed blades I could not live without.

Alright I’ll play...

1st would be to replace the Alox Farmer, that would see the most use and would put a quality utility blade in my pocket immediately.

Second would be a Sebenza, a large plain Jane 21.

Last would be a fixed blade, most likely I’d hold out for either another Effingham made EK model 5 Combat Bowie or one of the Effingham Black Jack/Randall clones.

These would be a great basic start and allow me to address most of my edged needs. I’d also replace my Leatherman Supertool with the original too. Ever since they first came out and I eventually bought the Supertool when it came out I’ve always owned a Leatherman and can’t imagine not having one of those also. It’s the handiest tool and the best multi tool in my eyes.

The Swisstool by Victorinox, even though it’s got a superior finish with a folder like quality in the F&F department the ergos of the Supertool are better suited to my needs and application.

Are we taking post apocalyptic scenario here? Prepper style? Alone on a deserted island? Do I get a blonde, brunette or "red headed step child" option as well?

If so, for me, it would be about ease of sharpening with what's on hand at any given time. So super steels are out!

1. Buck 119 (fixed)
2. Uncle Henry 897UH (folder)
3. Leatherman Wingman (multi-tool)

If not, then it's about maximizing potential. Here super steel is in, but, for me, it's still about serviceability. Thus, I would still not opt for something difficult to sharpen.

1. Terava Jääkäripuukko, Carbon (fixed)
2. Spyderco Endura, VG-10 flat grind (folder)
3. Leatherman Wingman

I am perfectly happy with a PM2 for almost everything, although I have other models and there are others that I like. I also like the Manix 2 and the Military. So the first thing I would buy would be a PM2, then another, then another, then...
