Oh Say Can You Snark...

A flurry of activity, and then nothing.

Too much BBQ and fireworks out there.

I really want the WS:KO. But $150 feels steep, considering I'm going to have to drop ANOTHER $100 right off the bat for the attachment. In the mean time I'm about to buy the diamond stones ($65) for the KME, but I also want to get a couple of the Chosera Water Stones ($160 GOD DANG I did not look at the price of those before) along with a couple of the strops ($130... CRAPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP!!!!!!!)

I'd like to get me a KME but my lansky 4-rod turn box works really well for the time being.

For real, that KME that I have is a BEAST! I know Ben does GOOD work, and has a GOOD system. And if I didn't have the KME I'd probably have the Apex. The only reason I really want the WS:KO is for the blade grinding attachment. For $250 it's a nice small, portable grinder. I'm not going to be making knives professionally or anything like that, but if I have an idea I want to be able to knock out, I don't want to have to use a file EVERY TIME.

The festivities of the evening have convinced me that I don't really need a new daypack for family outings, but also have convinced me that I might be able to make use of one.

Now if I can only find something reasonably priced that I like.

What kind of attachment are you looking at?

It's pretty impressive in person too... They had a couple down at Blade show, and yeah... It's pretty slick. And $250... Even $300 if you get the tool grinding attachment is a HELLUVA lot better than $1,200+ for a Kalamazoo, or Pheer, or Burr King, or any of those.

In on one!

Not so sure about that grinding thingamajig as a replacement for a real grinder. Read the description, and noted things like: "Not intended for grinding or creating primary bevels into steel blade blanks." I'd say that rules it out as being better than a KMG or similar. Cheaper, yes. Better? No. You can buy a decent 1x30 for that same price anyways, or spend a little more and get a 2x42 Craftsman. (Actually, if you don't already have the worksharp system, both of those grinders are cheaper than the WS system).

The other thing I really want to do!

Get a 55 gallon drum, a steel drum, and make it into a smoker, with a smoke box welded onto the side, and a chimney on the opposite side. However I'd also install 2 110mm computer fans on the chimney powered by a peltier thermocoupler mounted between the box and the drum to power the fans. Inside I'd have two grates so I could smoke LOTS of stuff.

in on one!! and ask yourself do i need all that shapening stuff i can get knives sharp on about 40 bucks worth of gear!!!

Need it? No... Want to have it... HELL yeah! I can get my knives STUPID sharp on my KME, however I do need a guided system. My hands aren't steady enough to not use one.
