Guys, I was anxiously awaiting my HEST that I ordered from KnifeCenter around 10 days ago. According to the site when I ordered, it was "in stock but would take 5 to 7 business days for them to ship". So a week goes by and I send an e-mail asking if they alreay had it.

Today I got an anwser saying that the HEST is backordered from RAT, so they have no idea when they'll have it. This sucks :grumpy:! Does any one know a reputable online site that ships internationally and that has the HEST in stock and ready to ship?

I'm usually way more patient but all the reviews and pics on this knife got me really anxious to have one ;). Of course I could go with the RC-3, but after being on the fence a long time about the HEST, I finally made up my mind and convinced myself that the HEST was better.

Gents, come on, I'm in withdrawal syndrome here! And I don't even have the knife yet! :D
Some good Samaritan please help a fellow knife addict to get his latest fix :p.

That's what happens when a knife gets popular. :)

Make yourself a bookmark list of reliable dealers and check them regularly, or order from one and w .. a .. i .. t .. .. .. (You got no choice, you got to wait anyway.)

I got mine from http://www.the-knife-connection.com/index.html and Dale handled the notification on arrival very nicely. Derrick at www.knivesshipfree.com is always good. http://www.twowolvesoutdoor.com/ has an excellent reputation also.

There's always our own http://www.1sks.com which is One Stop Knife Shop, the sponsor of Bladeforums. They seem to have the HEST in stock: call 1.502.671.5510 (If you need questions answered before you place your order, you may call us at this number for the latest information on product status.)

Thanks for the links Esav, but Two Wolves doesn't ship overseas and One Stop does not accept PP or international cc, and KnivesShipFree and Knife Connection don't have the HEST in stock :(.

I'm starting to think that I'll have to order the RC-3 instead .

1SKS has begun to accept PayPal for memberships. It might be worth it to email them asking if they will take it for merchandise now also.

Man, I live about 3 minutes by car from the Knifecenter and we are absolutely buried in snow. Almost 2 & 1/2 feet on the ground with another 12" - 18" expected over the next 36 hrs. This will be the largest snowfall total ON RECORD. My car has been stuck in it's parking spot for going on 5 days. I've been too lazy to dig it out and even if I did the roads are covered with snow and ice (No fun in a rear-wheel drive V8 sportscar). Even pick-ups and SUVs are having trouble getting around. The USPS has failed to deliver the mail in some areas for the first time in 30 years. Just a guess but I think this might have something to do with the delay. Try to be patient and I'm sure your knife will arrive eventually. When it does... ENJOY! -DT

Esav, the problem with 1SKS isn't just accepting PP or international cc. They charge $150 for delivery (UPS), and I though want the knife bad, I don't want it $150-for-S&H bad :(.

dttomcat, since the HEST is out of stock everywhere, I think probably the problem is with RAT, that hasn't been able to keep up with the demand.

That may be. Just saying that even if they did have it, getting it out could be/will be a problem for the next several days. Our area does not have the experience or the equipment to deal with this much snow. Things are a total mess. I know how it feels to be waiting on a new purchase. Try to be patient and you will get one from somewhere eventually. In the mean time, play with some of your older knives. That should help to ease the suffering. ;)

$150 for UPS delivery? Are they having one employee sit with it from the time it leaves 1SKS to the time it gets to your door?

Nemesisman has a couple for sale at JerzeeDevil.com - $95 ea. and we're not jumping on them over at the Devil.

There is NO problem with RAT, other than designing and making knives a lot more folks want than can be built.

Just re-read this. Are you sure that it stated "In Stock"? Most sites will ship much quicker than 5 days if the item is in. If they say 5-7 days it usually means the item is back-ordered and they are expecting to recieve a shipment from the manufacturer. I do not remember having heard anyone complain about the KnifeCenter. To be clear I have only dealt with them once as a walk-in customer. I got a LM multi-tool there. The experience was not entirely positive because I got into a discussion with one of the higher-ups, maybe the owner, about state auto-knife laws. He was somewhat dismissive and seemed certain that I was there to try and convince him to sell me a switchblade which was not at all the case. I just had a few quick questions for the man which ended up going unanswered. That aside maybe he was just having a bad/busy day. To be sure I have never seen so many knives under one roof. I mean a warehouse of full shelves. They are not some sort of drop-ship outfit. -DT

On all the knives on their web site you can see this:

Availability: Usually Ships Within a Week or Call

From that I understand that the item is in stock and that in less then a week it will be shipped.

From what I heard KnifeCenter is one of the best online dealers out there, and until now I was certain that everything they have listed on the site they do have in stock. But I learned that before ordering, regardless of what "Availability: Usually Ships Within a Week or Call" actually means, I should ask first if they indeed have the item in stock.

Not trying to give you a hard time here but most REPUTABLE mail order/website businesses are set up to ship within 24 hrs or so of receiving your order. Anytime it says "usually ships within a week" you should be wary. I went to their website and it is pretty clear that "in stock" items have a little box with a check mark in it next to the words "in stock". I have dealt with a few businesses that won't display items or make it clear by changing the item price to $999999.99 however, considering the volume that KnifeCenter does this probably wouldn't be feasible. The CS Rep that I dealt with was very pleasant and accomodating. The boss guy gave me a little attitude for some reason after I had just made a purchase from him and that irritated me a bit but I would deal with them again. Sorry that you misinterpreted their site but I wouldn't say it is misleading more than any other run of the mill sales type website business. Their site also says feel free to call when placing your order. Sorry for your bad experience. Good luck finding your knife. -DT

BTW, I did spend a little time trying to help you locate a HEST but to no avail. Most or all dealers seem to be out of stock.

dttomcat, this would be my first buy from Knife Center, and even though it hit a bump, it won't be my last one. After all, I never heard anything but praise for their service. But I would honestly prefer if they just put a "Out of Stock" notice on the items that they don't have at the moment. I'm pretty sure that declaring without a doubt if an item is in stock AND out of stock would be less confusing and would not kill them to do so. Well, if I had a business that's what I would do anyway.

Still, thanks for your help! The thing must be made of unobtanium, because nobody has the HEST in stock. But according to an e-mail that I got from a KC's rep, they should be receiving it in the next "couple of weeks". The problem is that usually "the next couple of weeks" does not always means the exact same amount of time as it does for me, so now I'm debating if I shouldn't just go for the RC-3...
