oil

Mineral oil. I don't have to worry about anything that I'm aware of when using it.

Mobil 1 synthetic 5W-30

For knives that see kitchen duty I've used Olive oil, vegtable oil and mineral oil.

Never- I mean NEVER - use WD-40. it has one good use. As a starting fluid for two-stroke engines. Other than that, WD-40 doesn't get used on anything I own. Its absolute crap. might as well use cosmoline. :barf:

Mineral oil or something called Rust-Free from A.G. Russell. Sometimes Remoil...just because it may be at hand ;).

hoppes #9 just because I have some handy and it works on my guns, in the kitchen canola or what ever I am cooking with,

I use either CLP, or some German light machine oil that I use on my tools.
I used to use Ballistol for some, but I hate the smell (WD-40 smells way better)

I use 3 in One multi-purpose, and Singer sewing machine oil for my guns and knives.
I take with me one of those Zippo aluminum fuel canisters filled with oil whenever I stay out overnight

Off the shelf sesame oil.

Smells great, non-toxic, and works. Been using it for 15+ years. Used to use mineral oil, but ran out one day and thought... hey, I've got a bottle of sesame oil...
