Oil?

Didn't want to use 3-in-1 due to the toxicity, so I used vegetable oil for awhile. I don't like the fact that it can rot, especially on a knife with wooden handles (micarta would be fine). Today I bought some mineral oil. To my surprise, it's used as a laxative... So I can now say with confidence that my knives are regular.

I use Weaponshield on my Glock, so I tried it on the Izula as well. Great! Nice Cinammon smell. Used Olive Oil today. I can say that both of these work very well.

What kind of oil do I need for my ESEE? Is regular gun oil ok?

Elbow grease.

Use it, and it won't rust. Or at least you won't notice it.

Seriously, I never oil mine. I've carried an ESEE-4 in 98degF heat, sweated on it like a pig, an there was no rust except a small spot on the edge near the tip (where all the sweat pooled down in the sheath, I guess).

I pulled it out, rubbed the wet off it, left it out of the sheath for both to dry off (I was finished for the day), and forgot about it. Next day, rust was still there. Put it in the sheath, went back to working. Used it a bit, most of the brown was gone. Never thought about it again.

Hmmm... probably should go look at it now, since it has been a week since there, and it has been in the sheath ever since.

Yep, it's fine. Still has the brown/red spot, but the edge is still sharp. No worries.
