Oiling an Opinel pivot is dumb

I got my #8 carbone today. I loosened the pivot by spreading the inner collar a bit. I also had to grind the inner collar a little shorter so the blade could open more, it came with a strange blade angle. I vaselined the pivot, and reassembled. Everything is working smoothly. As usual, mistakes + advice = education. I might have to get a stainless #7, since I'm not a huge fan of the metal taste on my apples... we'll see. I guess I'm an official Opi fan now.

I've never bothered to oil the pivot of my No.8. In my mind, the stiffness that comes with the changing weather around here when the wood expands or contracts is just part of the charm of the knife. If it really getts tight to the point of being bothersome, which is rare, a good tap on a hard surface will loosen it up again.
