OK.....I'm IN !

RDA, If you have anything else you'd like to "derail" ;) the thread with - please feel free. Wonder what the scale on the other side of that blue ano 3" looks like???
Thanks again for the high order eye candy.

Really enjoying my new 3" slicer. Trying to get a feel for how it functions & what needs tweaking in the way I handle it etc.
I have noticed that the pivot keeps loosening so I removed the pivot to have a look. I'll wait 'til my new scale & standoffs arrive before I break it right down for a once over. Maybe polish the pivot faces on both sides as well to brighten it up. There was no thread lock at all & I just put a thumb nail in one half of the pivot slot & turned my slot head (insert) bit (WIHA 1.6x8) by hand on the scale side to remove. I ordered a #12 spanner bit just in case I should need it sometime. I left the knife blade lined up with the frame hole. I'm not too eager to use blue Loctite as I like the idea of being able to tweak the pivot.

I cut a piece of plumber's white teflon thread tape about 2" long & sliced a 1/8"strip from it. I tacked it on the threads with my finger right under the head of the screw & wrapped it while stretching it. I put about 3 rotations on 'er, cut off the excess, & squeezed it firmly around the screw. Re-assembly was straight forward & the screw got pretty tight to turn as it reached the tape but I could still tighten it down by hand hold on the bit. Just enough tape & not overdone.

I played with setup until I got it to where the blade stayed open after disengaging the lock bar & req'd a gentle shake to have it drop from the open, point ahead position. That works for me. I actually prefer the deployment to be a just a wee tad stiff & it has remained exactly as I set it for the past 3 days. I really enjoy slowly thumbing the blade open 1/2 way & gently snapping it home with a solid click. I love the feel I get of the washers that way. :D

Have a good one

B - I'm the same. I like my deployment to be tight and I thumb the blade open. I just love the feeling of the smooth glide and the click of the lock-up. One of the great and simple joys of this knife.

Let us know how that teflon tape thing holds up.

I got my new dress up today & installed it in a spirit of adventure. :)
A Translucent Green G10 scale & Bronze Standoffs. That is hands down my favourite colour G10. It's very much like jade in appearance & the bronze standoffs are a rich touch of class! Now I'm good to go 'til I get the urge to put on a blue/black G10, which is real sweet also.
I examined the parts of the knife in detail to help in my understanding.

I'm very pleased with the desired effect of the teflon tape I put on last week & since I was asked, I thought I'd talk briefly about it. It held up nice 'n tight.
When I broke the knife down the tape had to be removed due to deterioration in the screw removal. The picture below shows how the tape resembles dental floss as it unwinds from being pressed into the thread. I started by digging at one end with the point of a safety pin as it needs to be broken.

This shows the 1/8" wide strip of tape (used scissors) & needs to only be a couple inches long. It's static sensitive so can be tricky. I have a small pc of 1/4" glass that I work on for various tasks.

I stretch-wound 4 revolutions this time, cut off the rest of it with scissors & squeezed it on the thread well. The last revolution can be wound so the bottom edge is a bit lower to help ease-in the rest of the tape as it starts to engage the pivot side female thread.

I decided to polish the faces of the pivot parts just as a personal touch. I used 1200 & finished up with 2000 wet/dry machinist paper. I stretched a pc of the paper between thumb & finger as shown to keep it flat on the glass & rubbed the face of each head ONLY in the direction of the blade groove so there's no random swirling. It's fine here but you can't do that on radial pattern like the scale screws for instance. They must be turned in a drill but mine were very polished out of box.

I even polished out the bottom of the grooves.( a guy's gotta have a hobby :D )
I took a round stick & cut the sides to fit the groove loosely & then scraped the bottom flat with the edge of a blade & taped a narrow strip of 1200 grit to the bottom to use as a "cleaner" on the steel. This way the sides of the groove go untouched.

I used WD40 to clean parts before greasing & removed excess grease. Man - this came together REAL nice!
I am impressed with the effect of the grease & it'll last much longer than oil if I keep it clear of pocket lint etc. I use a nice slip-in sheath most often so I'm good.
The teflon tape is absolutely great & allows pivot tweaking without becoming loose.

Have a wonderful holiday season people.

Great pics and contribution W&S. You are a true Member of the Herd:thumbup: Happy Holidays to You as well.

Thanks R. Yeah, this "herd" stuff could get to be a habit. :D
Next thing you know, I'll be thinkin' about candy apple Ti scale finishes.

Little tip, wind the tape counterclockwise (the opposite of what you show) as the tape is less likely to get screwed up when you reinstall the screw.

I recommend Vibra-Tite VC-3 over tape or thread locker.

Thanks RDA. I considered that but if the tape is squeezed tight before inserting the screw, it more or less fuses it. Being left handed it was more convenient. Right handers would find the reverse easier I think.
Thanks for the tip on the VC-3. Does it allow pivot tweaking or does it cure like loctite?
