OK, now I'm hooked... but do I need an Izula?

they sell the molle locks seperate, but honestly, I just pocket the whole deal. or grab some para and make a necklace for it.

As for the rest, the RC3 is a sexy thin slicer, the RC4 is a nice light bushcrafter, the RC5 will literally cut you out of a trainwreck, and the RC6 is a nice, well balanced, sweet, big-ass blade. buy them all and be happy :)

buy them all and be happy :)

I am printing this out to give to the wife. "But honey, my happiness depends on it!"

And thank you for the other information. I'll be heading back to the shop next week to at least put my hands on the various models.

I've stopped rationalizing knife buying a looooong time ago. I certainly don't need another knife but it sure as hell isn't going to stop me from buying more :D

So to your question, yes you need an izula ;)

You don't need an Izula. WTF are you thinking? You need two or three. Three. Maybe four....

Do you need it? No. Will you end up liking the RC-6 to the point at which you'll regret not getting the Izula? Probably. Will you end up with an Izula eventually? Yes. :D :D :D

that is so funny!!! i bought one. its great knife of course but i think you might be alil happier with a rc-3 just what i wish i would have done.

:D

Pretty much sums it up. Do I need one of each? No. Will I? Most likely.

Everyone needs an Izula. Just reading this thread almost made me impulse buy another one with a set of the new scales.

All right, after all the help I hot on this forum (please refer to http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=648676)
I've decided to order an RC6. This will be my first RAT Cutlery knife, and my first fixed blade.

However, do I really need an Izula as a companion? I mean, I have several Spyderco Militaries and Paramilitaries, so why would I need an Izula? Please notice I say *need* ... I know I WANT one, but do I need it, or I have its function covered by a Military?

Thanks again for all the good advice I got.

In simple terms, an Izula will not collapse on you while being used.

A folding knife can.

Additionally, the Izula is made from a steel which is known to be both durable and excels at holding an edge.

The Paramilitary or Military as bladed with S30V have a distinct issue with the edges folding over. S30V has a long and glorious history of this and has from day one. It is the nature of the steel. It is a shite steel for knife use, regardless of what Crucible says. Knives are made to cut and a folding edge will not do this. The composition of the steel at the molecular level ensures that while it will be "tough" (and that is a very interesting question as well) but the crystals will shift to avoid breaking and this causes the edge to flop versus stay in place.

D2 may or may not hold an edge, depending on the heat-treat.

Both steels are far less capable of taking lateral pressure or impact than 1095 and the Rowen/ RAT heat treat is sensational. You've seen a lot of stories in here about what we could term as retarded use or abuse of a knife.

Note that the Rowen blades handle this sort of behavior repeatedly and consistently.

The Izula will be stronger than your folding blades, and let me tell you, folks laugh at the pink Izula, but it's not grabbing attention the way a big folder with a shiny or serrated blade will in public. A liner lock of any sort is in no way as safe or secure as a fixed blade.

Get the handle scales while you are at it. You can sell one of your folders and easily cover the cost of the Izula and scales even at the aftermarket price of your folder.

And as some of the fellas have mentioned, an RC3 is an even better all-around carry-all-the-time knife (I hate the term EDC and would willingly kick whomever invented it in the balls) - it is of a perfect size to just tuck it IWB with the clip outside your belt and forget about it until you need it. It's also a very low profile knife.

Izula - you don't need one.
You need lots. 1 for each colour and 1 each with scales, with paracord and without paracord. Izula bites!

It was so dirty once I got home I decided to kill two birds with one stone, :D its not like it was a bath or nothing ;).

Be careful with that stuff or we'll be calling you hwno-baller.

To the OP, I haven't been using my Izula as much as I thought I would yet, but everything I've used it for it's sure been great. Haven't had the opportunity to use my RC-3 yet, but I really like the size of the blade. I had 4 RC knives in 3 months so just give in and get what you want. :D

Yes you need it. More importantly, you want it. Why deny yourself the unbridled pleasure of having an IZULA around your neck. What could be better than such a magnificant piece of steel resting comfortably against your chest, closest to your heart.
