Ok, R U a Sniper on Ebay or Not?

I "usually" like to watch an item as it gets down to the last 15 minutes or so. Sometimes I will put in my last bid with about 5 to 10 seconds to go. Other times, I just enter the max I'm willing to pay for an item and check on it later. If I won it, fine, if not, I'll go find another one. However, there have been times when I know I won't be around when the bidding ends and I will use a "sniping" program to enter my max bid at the last couple of seconds. I know I'm not the only one who does this as I've lost quite a few auctions from other "snipers". As a matter of fact there is a member here on the forums that has "sniped" me on several occasions. Is there anything wrong with it? No, it's just another tool to help gain an advantage, and it only works sometimes.

Yeah, I snipe. I don't want to bid early and be nibbled to death. I decide what the item is worth to me and depend on the one bid. If I get the item, I pay and am happy. If not....there will always be a nother one.

I have used a program in the past and I'm using one today - first time in over 6 months... just because I'm going to be away from the computer at the end. I do my own sniping... as housecat said, I don't want to be "nibbled to death" either. I've seen a sort of bidding hysteria where two parties will enter 15 or 20 bids at + 50 cents until they take the lead... I've watched bids go beyond full retail price and even beyond the "BIN" price on a parallel auction. I decide what it's worth to me, then I wait until the last 10-20 seconds to enter my bid.

I wait until the last 10-20 seconds to enter my bid.

I've got two problems doing it this way.
First of all, auctions don't always end at a convenient time.
Secondly, if someone else has a higher bid on a snipe program, it's going to get in the winning bid. They react faster than you can.

So in the end you wait around trying to snipe an auction manually when using a snipe program does it faster and better.

I just watched an auction where the seller had identical knife at a BIN price of 125, the auction one went for 190. I can not understand the fever of a bidding war, if you snipe, set the bid and let it go. If the winner ever goes to that sellers store he will see just what his auction fever cost him, I would bet he fails to pay.
Snipe, never leave home without it. (good one)

Bidding wars are what eBay is all about. People who are new to online auctions are on a steep learning curve. Some people just don't want to be outbid. As a seller, bidding wars are what you want. Let the price shoot way up and keep going and going..... Some people "absolutely must have something" no matter how much it costs. Seasoned eBayers know what they are looking for, they investigate other avenues of acquisition before bidding, they know the normal price for an item and they know what "they" are willing to pay for an item.
