  • Today marks the 24th anniversary of 9/11. I pray that this nation does not forget the loss of lives from this horrible event. Yesterday conservative commentator Charlie Kirk was murdered, and I worry about what is to come. Please love one another and your family in these trying times - Spark

Ok, we're gonna do this right, this time....

I used to contribute a lot to Wikipedia, but my tendency to take pissing matches with strangers online too far just ended up aggravating me to no end.

If an article is started for him with enough links to other articles, the Wikipedia community will likely contribute and edit as they are known to do.

However, the issue here has to do with research. If, as the OP states, this is going to be done "right," Wikipedia does not allow for independent research. Sources are supposed to be able to be validated by readers. If an article talks about Ethan's accomplishments, career, interests, personal life, etc., those need to be verifiable facts that go beyond "Ethan told me himself."

If someone can provide to me the sources from which the article would be written using, magazine articles, newspaper clippings, etc., I would be happy to give it a crack. Hell, if someone doesn't like it, ya just log into Wikipedia and change it. There isn't anything stopping anyone from starting an article about him themselves.

An article can always start small and just build as the facts come in.

"Ethan Becker was born in XXXX in the city of XXXX. He is the co author of The Joy of Cooking and the founder of Becker Knife & Tool; a line of knives manufactured by KA-BAR."

I do minor in creative writing.

Eta. I just love literature. It is somewhat of a passion. No matter how bad my.grammar is on here. I'm not no writing idjit.

I'll help if needed. I write for a living (law enforcement.) I also do it as a hobby and am a few hours short of a degree in creative writing. I've never had the honor of meeting or speaking with Mr. Becker. I admire the fact that he not only has designed great knives, but stands behind his products whole-heartedly and would gladly help put his story on paper.

You guys may need an editor and/or final reader once all the content is in place. I know someone who'd be pretty decent at that.

No worries.

A lot of folks don't realize that he wrote the world's best selling cookbook. Or that he attended Cordon Bleu to become a chef.

Or that he used to get paid a nickel for chipmunk pelts from his grandma.

Stuff like that.

I've heard you mention this in passing, but my brain tends to filter out things that don't intrest me (one reason why my survival knowledge has a big hole in it with wild edibles). Now that I am reading this thread, "The Joy of Cooking" is suddenly clicking...I HAVE heard of this book outside of Beckerdom. I had no idea. No wonder DerekH was jumping all over my sh*t about bringing A1. Thats pretty impressive. Ethan Becker is known for "The Joy of Cooking" just like Lynn Thompson is known for "The Joy of Eating".

I'll do it, and take my payment in Beckers!

Good idea though, can't wait to see this happen.

If left up to his own devices, E will spend his days riding around on his tractor, shooting at moving objects with one of his guns.
Or until something shiny distracts him.
:D

Yeah, and what's yer point? :D If it wasn't for this thing called "work" I'd be doing exactly the same thing! (JD 4310 w/loader and backhoe; '53 Ford NAA, '49 JD "M" -- not enough room here to list the guns...)
