OK, What the heck has happened?

Godspeed my friend.....

WHY?! Just why? But seriously, that thing is awesome SAK Guy! I could see that thing going in a hiking bag with an orange paracord lanyard on it.

For me, an SAK is the only pocket knife I'd ever need, but certainly not the only knife I'd ever want. ;)

:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup::thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

Out of a possible 5 thumbs up, that statement gets a 6. Yes, I can do math, and no I have not been drinking. Much.
:D

"So, what the heck happened? How did this little metal handled scout knife do this?"

Same way it happened to me, but with the Alox Cadet. Flat, light, more tools than just a blade, people-friendly, does everything I need. The only reason I still carry anything else (in addition to the Cadet, never instead of) is to try to justify to myself why I bought all the other ones.

I fully expect to eventually sell everything else and just keep my small collection of Alox SAKs. And maybe a couple of Bucks. And a dozen or so Case. Maybe the Queens. Few of the GECs. And of course the old Schrades. But the rest, someday, sell-city.

LOL:D:D:D

Same thing I've been telling myself several times a year for awhile now.;)

Pioneer is such a great knife, I carry mine all the time. It just does everything! I have a love for custom slipjoints, but from a pure usability standpoint the Pioneer is everything I need.

Its funny. I can be leading a little group of 10-15 year olds, maybe wearing what feels like half a ton of climbing gear, or maybe a big pack and a monster first aid kit. those kids can be as near to freaked out as their little minds can get not seeing concrete anywhere in sight, wondering which of the insects around them is poisonous, or if I'm really serious that the steel cable I'm about to attach them to will hold the bus they rode in on. Some how, whether its just needing a pair of scissors, or a screwdriver for some glasses, I can pull out a SAK and everything is going to be okay. kids that have been brought up that knives are bad things for bad people to do bad things with (although I wonder how any of them ever eat.... best not to think too hard about double standards). I guess there's just something about it, seems like a silly little knife, not the biggest, flashiest or meanest. but it gets the job, no matter the job, done.

Wow, this thread is filled with indisputable truths! :D:D

If they would release a Cadet with a pair of scissors, now that would be near perfection!

Totally agree, Ben; that would float my boat in an unsinkable way.

Couldn't agree more, Jeff! I carry an Electrician (or occasionally a black Pioneer) every day as my tool(s), but i often have another half-dozen (or more) knives on or near me for aesthetic and/or sentimental reasons. ;)

Fabulous Farmer, SAK Guy!:thumbup: Now that you scored a South African Farmer (Boer?), have you started to speak Dutch (groen=green?)? :D

I totally buy into John's plan for the future. :D:rolleyes::D

Was hoping someone caught that!:thumbup: :D

I carry a cadet around town and at work (office). A farmer when in the woods. Have a pioneer but hardly ever use it... cadet/farmer has me covered, sak-wise.

Always fun to see some SAK praise in the traditional section. For me it's the pioneer most of the time, and a farmer for the woods.

Well, the scout pattern has been around for so long, and the Pioneer has been around since 1957, so I would say that they are very traditional. As a traditional knife guy, I never bought into the one-hand 111mm knives. I actually just traded away the only 111mm knife that I had no sentimental value with for a Huntsman and a Classic. I think that a Peanut might be a nice companion knife for one though. I might have to dig mine out today...

Well, here she is. After four months of everyday carry. Now, if Vic would ever do a run in 1095, with some wood scales...

I agree with you, but it has been voiced by some hardliners that SAKs aren't necessarily considered traditional because of the mass corporate production and the "cold" aesthetics.

I would say that the new ones aren't traditional. But the simple ones that have been around for decades or longer are. That's just my $.02 though.

[Reply to BenHarris, above]

Well, they won't have 1095 steel (just stainless only). But if you want wood scales, check into Vic's Delemont Evowood models. They're smaller than your Pioneer, being 65 or 85 mm long closed, but the wood is walnut.
