OK, What the heck has happened?

I think it's normal to gravitate towards a favorite. My main EDC is in my pocket probably 350 days out of the year. It's like carrying a friend around with you.

The two I like the best are the Rucksack and the Huntsman. I probably carry the huntsman the most but love the blade on the Rucksack. Both of mine have saws.

Less than six months ago I was carrying at least two knives. I carried a rotation of probably ten knives. But over the past two months, every time I put a knife in my pocket, I take it out and put the Alox Pioneer I got back in November in its place. It might change to a Huntsman when I go hiking, it might be supplemented with a Stockman while working or a Mora while bushcrafting, I might have a Classic on my keys, and I always have a Leatherman in my satchel, but the Pioneer is my carry 90-95% of the time. I would even say that 80% of the time I only have the Pioneer. It is just so perfect, I don't really need anything else. So, what the heck happened? How did this little metal handled scout knife do this?

It's very likely that the pivot just has a lot of dirt in it. It can happen especially with the oil they use when they ship from the factory. Typically, if you soak the knife in warm water with some soap until the blades loosen up. After a while, see if you can get the blade moving again. Work the blades around to get the dirt out and afterwards, let it dry and put a very light coat of mineral oil. I tend to also put the blade at an angle and wipe the back springs to clear up any dirt there.

Best of luck!

I'll do it, see if i can get it back to use. Thanks

Sometimes it's a problem with corrosion in the liners liners in the cellidor models. Moisture can cause the aluminum liner to corrode in a certain way that will freeze up the knife. This isn't a problem in the ALOX knives because the liners are either brass or nickel silver.

You might have to use a penetrating oil like WD-40 or PB Blaster.

don't use water and soap!!! at least don't even try to move the blade unless you have oil in the joint again.
WD40 (and similar) and air compressed will clean, then apply a proper lube.

I resurrected an old Electrician that was nasty stiff and unusable with the boiling hot water and detergent method .
It worked for me .

If they would release a Cadet with a pair of scissors, now that would be near perfection!

+1 to this.

Swap the file/nail cleaner for a pair of scissors
And perhaps swap that can opener (least used tool ever for EDC) for a smaller file/nail cleaner
Include a split ring (or pocket clip), and offer it in red alox.

This would probably be the perfect SAK.

I'm happy you got good results, however i would be concerned with water. To get rid of gunk a proper solvent is to be used, and knife materials will be more happy with oil than moisture in general terms. Then in no way a slipjoint should be used without oil in the joint. It takes no time to gall the spring and ruin the walk and talk.
