Okay, let's all be honest here....

The crap knives in the kitchen are why I use my expensive knives when I get dragged in there.
Master Tanto cuts bacon really nicely.:)
SmF and Umnumzaan do well with onions and peppers.
Superhawk to cut the roast...why not!

I have two Frosts of Sweden and an F.Dick, that's as top of the line as it gets in my house. All of the others are chinese crap. Everything goes in the dishwasher to clean and gets piled in the silverware drawer for storage, for the most part. I do have a magnetic strip on the kitchen wall that holds the big knives.

It's my wife's kitchen so I have no clue what kind of knives we have in there. I don't use them. Probably some Rachael Ray stuff since she's always ordering her crap off qvc.

My knife snobbery extends to the kitchen as well although they are a hodgepodge mix. We have Al Mar Ultrachefs and some Henkels.

I want to know if anyone has taken a Busse like a battle mistress (I want bad) to slice a beef roast? Inquiring minds want to know. hehe

Not a Busse, but a Bussekin...

Guilty....

I bought my knife set at a bed bath and beyond...mainly for looks....stainless handles that appear to be more stainless than the steel the blades are made of since a couple of them started to rust a bit after their first wash. Needless to say, I end up using my Sebbie or Military for food prep when I need a real knife.

Going to have to look into something by Murray Carter.....

My kitchen knives are junk, but they work fine... ;)

No reason to spend a ton on expensive kitchen knives just to have them beat to crap, abused and or chipped out and broken. The cheap stuff works just fine and it can take the general abuse and neglect that they take.

I do have a few Customs that I use in the kitchen, but they aren't kitchen knives and I am the only one who uses them.

Aside from one Shun Ken Onion Chef's knife every other one of my kitchen knives is a piece of junk.

All Wusthof and Shun here.. But I cook for a living so my knives see about 6 to 8 hours of use a day. Honestly, I cant imagine transitioning from the well made knives that I carry daily (a Spyderco Yojimbo and an Esee Izulla II, usually) to crappy kitchen-ware even if I wasnt in the culinary field. c-mon guys!! buy some nice kitchen knives!! you'll notice the difference and, honestly, a $100 Wusthof 8" chefs knife will get more use in a month than that $800 Busse Battle Mistress that sits in your safe will in its entire life..

Who keeps knives in safes?;)
I just cannot get excited over kitchen knives. When I get a decent job with extra cash, then I'll get some (along with a nice freezer, and other boring stuff:D)

So are my priorities screwed up since I have good kitchen knives and no battle mistress altho I lust for one? cumon....lie to me ....(AWESOME!! using the bussekin on that turkey or whatever btw!!

Working as a chef all day, it makes sense to have decent kitchen knives at home. When you're working a construction site cutting god know what, it's hard to get excited about what knives you have in the kitchen. I consider it like my tools, I use quality tools at work, I use quality tools at home...Just my opinion YMMV..

It makes the turkey taste better.;) (you need one...futile to resist...:))

yeah, but cooking is fun, and really, for kitchen knives, all you really need is a good 8" chef or santoku, a nice boning knife, and a paring knife. MAYBE $200 tops, and trust me, youll notice the difference, especially if youre into knives (which is why were all here, right?) We all cook sometimes, even if its just grilling out or fab-ing game from a hunting trip. Trust me on this one. next time youre out with the wife at bed-bath-and-whatever, go to the knife section and check out a Wusthof classic. If you can honestly say you dont like it, open this thread back up. Treat them well, and theyll last you a life time.

Also, Ban Tang has some really lusty kitchen stuff.. If I had the money, thats what Id be slingin'..
