OKCA, good news, Joe looks good

Joe's wife's first name is Marlene but not spelled that way. O forget it, I can't find the spelling. Thats ok about no pictures of Buck personalities. Thanks, for the photos. DM

He had made a few extra, several bullet proof 110s and 112s. They were sold out when I arrived. I am not surprised in the least.

Steve, Leroy did a great job on your clear 110s... I can't wait to get mine from him... Great pictures by the way, like always...

Thanks for sharing your day with us... ITE ...:thumbup::thumbup:

Thanks for the photos oregon. It's sure good to hear Joe's back in the saddle again.

ITE, thank you for the kind words. It is entirely my pleasure. I love this stuff. Really, I do.

skyhorse, you are welcome. Joe is a survivor. Buck has hit pay dirt with him and I hope that they appreciate that fact. He led me to a show special, five knives built just for this show (gold etch of anvil and HH Buck blacksmith shop custom 110) let me pick thru the two left and took my info to send a letter of authenticity. His wife, the great granddaughter of Hoyt Buck, is charming, capable and a real asset to the cause. Those two manned the Buck table with enthusiasm and grace. I bot all of the remaining paperstone 112s, the ones with the new pivot washer (tip top action btw), all three.

OK, I admit it, I need help. Back on page 1, in the photo above the Buck key chain photo, it is the close-up photo with a big 317 folder on the left side. What is the knife next to the 317 with the shackle loop. Is it one of the 800 series workman knives (but they had carpet blades), but it has nickle bolster and a center liner lock ??? Modified what ?? Anyone actually know for sure ???
300Bucks

EDIT ADDED:
Copied and boosted photo, looks like a TL-29 utility knife. Did Buck make one of these ever ? I will be the bad guy and say it, "I don't think it is a Buck."
If I had been there and opened it up and it said BUCK on the tang(I am guessing a 301 or 307 blade), I would have said "oh look ,someone has replaced a Camillus TL-29 blade with a Buck blade" But would have likely bought it anyway for my "ODDBALL" collection........300/ch

PPS But would have really worked on getting price way down.

Another pic of the same knife:

I bet that knife will be there next year. Remind me and I will examine it closely for Buck content.

More CSI exam.....look at the long pull hiding in background. Blade replacement all the way.......99.9% of all TL-29s had nics.

Maybe I will look at it myself, would like to come there someday, if gas stays below $50 a gallon.....

All bets are off on the future price of gas. Not a smart money bet. Uh uh.

You are invited. I look forward to seeing your smiling face. I usually do OKCA on Sunday (work interferes with hobby!). So if you arrive on Saturday you can clean out everything I overlooked this year and will probably overlook next year.

Yep, Craig I thought it was a TL-29 but I didn't think Buck made one--- so, a remake. Oregon, Thanks soo much for the great photos of knives. Those of Rusty's knives are great and the several sets of the Master series, Joe's display and David Yellowhorse. Rich, thanks for the spelling of Mrs. Houser's name. DM

Thank you for the kind words David and Ed. It is my pleasure.

One of these years I hope to visit OKCA over two or more days instead of my usual, work schedule conflicts with cherished pastime, hit and run. I had a map of the show and a list of honey dos. I never seem to be able to cover all of the bases. Perhaps I can visit on a Friday and/or Saturday, post pics, and take pointers for further inquiry/pics/purchases for the Sunday finals.

This past show targets were: P/u knives from Leroy (a minute of conversation with him is a month's worth of education), acquire French automatics (got a nice one, oh baby), show Shilin Cutter and look for others (no others were found), discuss kris sword from pre-WWII Northern Phillippines with apex collector of Moro weaponry (mission accomplished), search for ITE's missing Bucklites (no joy, sorry Armand, all vendors were cleaned out by Sunday), discuss Shilin Cutter with Bernard Levine (I could not corner this sage-like cutlery scholar but per his forum here I learned that he had only seen one and it was entirely brass except for the cutting edge but had no history, unfortunately), buy ecolite paperstone 112s from Buck (I got the last three), reup BCCI to lifetime (mission accomplished) and meet anyone who would hold still for it (met a few that didn't flee before me) and introduce my younger son to cutlery nirvana (he needed a pillow for his head after 4 hours). I am still revved up from this outstanding show and looking forward to next Spring.

A full schedule met. Dad you drug him around to all that? No wonder he needed a pillow. DM ;)

My son Jake is tech oriented and prefers to do just about everything while sitting in front of a screen. Visiting a physical location in person is unusual for him. He told me of something that I would like to see employed at OKCA: A 360 camera takes photographs of every table and everything on it (the camera must run overhead somehow). With the table grid, provided in hardcopy by OKCA, you could locate the vendor and item post-show and do it online. I realized, after 300bucks made his observations, that my memory doesn't hold enough water to suit me and after the show trying to figure out who that vendor was has left me wanting. I don't know it this technology has a name it would enable the armchair collector, wherever they might be in the world, to view items and possibly contact vendors. Virtual OKCA... There goes the gate receipts.

I've been out of town and have only had my windows phone to check out the forum:thumbdn: I have been waiting to get back to a desktop to check out what looked to be great pics......and they are-Thanks oregon, great show.

My pleasure. I was hoping that you could see some of what I saw.

Some more from Joe's display of HH Buck's brilliant work:
