A question was asked about what Olamic Tactical/Olamic Cutlery can do with a knife. According to their twitter feed it seems like the answer is "pretty much anything you want"

https://mobile.twitter.com/olamiccutlery

Their Damascus steel is amazing. Outside of Olamic I haven't seen such crazy or artistic patterns. I'm sure a lot of bladesmiths have spent their lives trying to create Damascus that looks half as good.

What they're doing to pimp their knives and create stunning examples of what can be done is nothing short of amazing in multiple ways. Not only the materials used but the prices, customer service, and real quality control are genuinely stunning in today's marketplace.

[Removed paragraph that listed common complaints with known companies to keep the thread positive]

And then a breath of fresh air. Midtechs made in the US. Great customer support. Great materials. No history of deceit or IP theft. Reasonable (better than reasonable, TBH) prices. Great quality to where even the pickiest reviewer has a hard time finding any faults outside of personal preferences. New ideas like detent ramps and innovative finishing techniques. Easy to modify and customize to your preference. A true effort to create each piece as a unique offering if the customer so desires.

It's great to see this and hope the rest of the knife world follows. If they don't then I hope people vote with their dollars and push Olamic to the top as a thank you for giving people what they've been asking for: a good, unique knife that works, is worth showing off, doesn't cost an arm and a leg, absolutely backed up by the company, and made in America. They're hitting a lot of buttons that people have been screaming about. I like that and hope they start getting talked about a lot more. At the very least I hope they get popular enough to force the bar higher for the other knife manufacturers so we as consumers don't have to deal with some of these shoddy, lazy, or outright deceitful practices and price gouging in order to get something we want to carry.

Well Bodog you have managed to insult a few reputable manufactures that support Blade Forums, was that really necessary?

"You have companies like Benchmade pushing out uninspired pieces, you have Spyderco pushing out knives with questionable basic materials or engineering designs that seem to fail quite a bit with a warranty that's questionable, you have Zero Tolerance pushing out knives at higher and higher costs and playing games with limited edition pieces and baiting their customers all the time. You have Cold Steel and all the issues with Lynn Thompson and the absolute reliance on the Demko back lock. You have Strider and a questionable history of reliably producing quality pieces and his lies. You have microtech and their design robbing and horrible customer service. You have Reate which used to be a counterfeiter. You have WE which may or may not produce solid knives reliably. You have Custom Knife Factory working together with Kevin John Counterfeits. You have the seriously overpriced Shirogorovs with no back end support. You have Rocksteads that cost around 1000 for polished steel and plain aluminum. You have Chris Reeve Knives that look the same year after year with no real changes (not necessarily a bad thing but you can only look at so many Sebenzas before they all start looking the same). You have Hinderer and all that's involved with them. "

This won't end well.

Not insulting. I only posted what are common concerns with some known companies and what another company is doing to provide the answer to knife buyers. I guess some people will feel personally insulted but that's not the purpose of the thread. The purpose is to say kudos to a knife company who is above all that and provide specific examples that a lot of us have experienced or seen at one time or another. Hopefully people can discuss Olamic instead of the companies Olamic is leaving behind. People can create other threads if they want to discuss the other companies.

Why did you start the thread like this. I was hoping to find an Olamic thread that was positive. I'm about to sell more knives to get one with the sheepcliffe blade. Anyone who would advise not to please pm me.

Fair enough. I removed what might be construed as negative. Hopefully the people who quoted that paragraph will delete so there's no risk of people arguing.

Thanks man. I really like the looks of these blades. One thing I'm not crazy about is the pocket clip. I emailed them and will see what they will do.

Did they really name that knife "The Poonmaker"? Do they know what "poon" is slang for?

Yes, I think it's a purposeful double entendre. A rainmaker with a harpoon blade. Looks nice. Makers have a sense of humor too. They also have a poonfarer.

A detent ramp is a new idea?!

Sounds like a typical fanboy post with lots of opinions being thrown around. Nothing wrong with that but not everyone is going to feel the same way.

If you go to their website it appears they only have 4 models with 3 being a variation of the same design. Who knows what they would be 'pushing out' if they were creating twice that many new models every year.

the generalized disparagement of specific knife companies and the people behind them was really counterproductive to your apparent goal in starting this thread.

pretty hard to take anything said in here seriously after that.

Condensed version.

Hi I love this knife it hasn't opened in my pocket yet.

Oh wait it just did. Now I hate it like all the others.

Detent ramp...uncommon at best.

Most people think offering a few things that are absolutely spot on is better than offering a lot that are off. Does Chris Reeve Knives offer many new models every year? That company doesn't seem to be hurting.

Not a fanboy post as much as it is appreciation for a company doing great things not many others are. But since my first interaction with Eugene several years ago, yeah, I've had respect for how he's doing things. Don't have anything bad to say about them as a company or him as a representative. It's hard to find a company without at least some negative aspect that has to be ignored or justified away.

Whatever. If I'm a fan of Olamic, then I'm a fan of Olamic and that's not a bad thing in this hobby to be a fan of a company.

and not for nothing, but they're not everybody's taste... I don't find any of the above knives pictured as breathtaking masterpieces, but that's personal opinion on tastes, so now that apparently all those other knife companies are junk and I don't like OT, where am I ever supposed to shop for a folding knife I can stand behind?

To be fair I simply listed commonly stated complaints from multiple companies and listed how Olamic isn't guilty of those same complaints. I also edited out the paragraph when others said it would obviously lead to arguing to try to be as sugary sweet as possible because it's so easy to offend people. I'd love to simply weigh pros and cons in a purely neutral way but it IS the Internet after all and that's pretty unlikely. The only reason you even know about the list is because someone quoted it and kept it there as bait to start an argument, which, respectfully, you fell into. Others can overlook it and just talk about the company.

Your company and products are also highly regarded.

^ To the average knife enthusiast, being a fan of a company, is "not a bad thing," B-Dog. To average non knife enthusiast troll on BF's, however: this is a bad thing.

I don't spend too much of my valuable time reading/posting in GND related thread's. I've attempted to share my enthusiasm in a few ZT, Strider, and Medford thread's in the past...and we all know what the results of these thread's, were...

Hopefully, this otherwise positive thread will not meet the same fate.

Those custom photo's you shared, look amazing.

^ I'm now considering sending my Poonfarer, in for a mod.

Would love to see pictures if you have some mods done

I don't buy knives for their innovative Damascus patterns. People who dislike the sebenza because it looks plain probably don't ever use their knives. Benchmade's lack of inspired designs don't bother me; I don't need new tech on my knife. Lynn Thompson found a maker who created an incredibly sturdy lock and chooses to use that? I'm not seeing the negative. Finally, you have your vague comments regarding Hinderer. If you couldn't see the storm brewing before you typed out that mass of silliness, then you should really examine your methods. My dog could have seen this crap show stirring from a mile away.
