The 247 opens as well with the thumb as with the flipper? Or is one way better than the other?

The detent is too strong to make it a good opener via the thumb hole. That's why it's such a great and fast flipper.

Perhaps the detent will eventually break in enough to allow thumb opening, but for now a two-finger pinch will get the blade started out a bit more discretely.

I saw on my YT feed today that Nick Shabazz did a review on a really good-looking Olamic Wayfarer Compact. Pretty knife that looks to be about the same size as the 247?

I've seen complaints about grinds, detent movement, scratches, off-centering but the customer service is always perfect. The knife is too handle-heavy though.

Where??

Haven't seen anything negative around these parts beside personal opinions. Everything I'vee read here and elsewhere is nothing but glowing compliments whether it be a mid tech or a full custom.

I've seen the same. Haven't heard a negative word yet about designs, builds, action or lock up.

Not my experience, and the weighting makes the knife feel light to me.

https://youtu.be/QZgrMVyj_m8?t=8m30s - exposed detent ball hole, as a viewer pointed out.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rGG2nFTrOds - a viewer reported some vertical blade play in his knife in the comments.

http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/1483628-Olamic-247-has-become-off-center - someone in the thread reported vertical blade play in addition to centering issues.

However, every one of these cases was met with exceptional customer service. Seriously, just look at the video responses. I believe the problems reported in the linked thread have also been resolved successfully. The company was/is in transition so the sporadic issues may be due to that, or because the 247's parts are milled in Italy, and everything from Italy has been spotty at best. Fox, Lionsteel, Viper etc. can make it near flawless but can also stumble quite often. The problem for me is if I order one of these and encounter problems it won't be so easy to have it fixed as I'm not from the US.

Also, why titanium hardware? The guy in the video had trouble after disassembling the knife because titanium is soft. It's pointless and expensive, but I appreciate the attention to detail. As for the weight, makers and designers seldom care about balance. This knife should be better balanced.
