Olamic Wayfarer 247 closing smoothness

My CKF MILK is actually very light feeling in terms of lock bar pressure, but is by a wide margin the fastest/smoothest/easiest flipper I've had. I had a Brous T4 CF that was really amazing too, but the ceramic bearings of the MILK are smoother. Both of those are/were fall-shutters. I actually prefer this 247's more "deliberate" closing. My MILK literally scares me out of letting anyone else but my son handle it (he has a MILK too).

I like the way it feels, personally--but only if there is still a strong enough detent for good flipping action if the knife is a flipper.

Too often I've found that knives that fall closed from gravity are also only so-so flippers, because the lockbar pressure is too light for the detent ball to have much resistance breaking free of the hole.

If I have to have one or the other (great flipping or falls closed by gravity alone) give me great flipping every time. My Reate/Begg mini-bodega is as smooth and tight a knife as I've seen, but the feisty detent that makes it superb flipper also means it needs a couple of wiggles to fall closed, and I'm fine with that. There is a fine line where some knives give you both (e.g. my new to me CKF Ratata flips very well, but also still falls closed under gravity) but I'm too lazy to obsess about it.

Agreed on all points.

Weakening detents or loosening pivots to make videos is popular but not best.

One thing I really enjoy about my 247 is how tight it is while remaining lightning fast and smooth.

I would much rather have a blade shut with a very slight jiggle, rather than freely fall shut. From knives I have used, you usually have a knife with better overall action and performance with that. IMHO

My Olamic 247 blade doesn't fall free but will do so incrementally with flicks of the wrist. It flips no matter how you hold it. I can also open it via the blade hole if I rest my pinky, ring and middle finger on the clip so that there's no pressure on the lock bar. Alternatively, I can pinch open it using my thumb and index finger. Definitely, a very comfortable folder to hold due to the curvature of the handle and the flipper tab acting as guard. Also, the blade has excellent piercing and slicing capabilities.

I only wish they had a 4in model, I'd already have one.

Hey brother, to be fair, the standard Wayfarer IS a 4in model!

To my understanding, this model came about in order to get Olamics into the hands of folks why may not have wanted to pay what the Wayfarers cost, or to carry a knife that big. Both of my Wayfarers are biiiiig, big knives. I love 'em, but could understand how some folks might not want to carry a knife that large.

Olamic Wayfarer with 4" blade and Olamic Wayfarer Compact with a 3.5" blade are both custom whereas the Wayfarer 247 is a mid-tech. This is also reflected in the price.

I have a 4" Wayfarer and a 3.5" 247 and I must say the fit and finish is excellent in both.

I just Google the Swish and I like it! The thumb slot is PERFECT :)

And quiet, you're an enabler! :D

Now the question is do I go blue or bronze....

I'll end up with a 247 at some point, because I absolutely love my Wayfarer compact. The only downside is that hammered copper and ironwood really isn't the best for an EDC knife.

I think it carries very nicely, as it is actually fairly slender given how tight the gaps are between the blade and scales. Also very contoured and smooth. Mine has the smooth backspacer, and I like that I can easily slide past the knife to retrieve items from my pocket. I am fairly sensitive to pocket blockers, and plenty of otherwise great knives have passed through my ownership due to not being able to retrieve items from my RFP without being grabbed by a knife.

Unfortunately I don't think I have the funds to pick this up right now. I can but I shouldn't. And I don't know if there are any I currently have that I am willing to give up. I will have to wait a couple of weeks. I just hope the one I want doesn't go out of stock.
