I always see threads about sweet old knives in super condition. Everyone wants a killer condition 50 to 100 year old knife , but what about the ones that have been there , done that?
The ones that were carried and used for many years on a daily basis.

The "one man one knife" knife.

You know ya got'em. Its the one in the back of the drawer that is almost too ugly to pull out. Ya know the one with no snap or no blade left. The scales are wore smooth or broke. The one that had its hay day many many years ago , but boy what days they must have been.

If you are like me , there are a few laying around that fit the bill. Lets show'em some love.
They may not be worth using anymore but a picture wont hurt anything.
So, if ya got'em , lets see'em.
Here are my old and tired but at one time tried and true knives.
Case / Russell / Remington / Ka-Bar/Southington/Schrade/Camco.

Great post and great thread idea :) Just heading out the door, but reckon I have one or two which fit the bill ;) More later

Nice old knives guys. A lot of character in those. Just think of the hours logged in by those beauties. I remember an old Case knife my grandpa had and we would sit on his front porch and he would trim his fingernails with it. Every blade on it was curved or thin. Wish I had it. I think it was a stockman. I can remember the blades seeming almost black with patina.

I don't think those folks liked to get every bit of use they could out of a knife back in the day :)

This old Sheffield-made Whittler has seen plenty of use in it's time, but still a nice knife in my opinion :)

Rather different is this Brookes & Crookes Whittler with ivory covers. The two smaller blades have been snapped off, probably from use rather than abuse, but it still has one good blade

r8shell started a topic with the title "old wrecks" that may also be of interest. https://bladeforums.com/threads/old-wrecks.1295825/

Belknap Hardware catalogs showed an illustration of a knife ("old John") that was used for 28 years until there was not much left of the blades.

I can relate to that... ;)

She did indeed, and it's an excellent thread if I remember rightly :) In her spare time, r8shell runs a retirement home for tired and worn Lambsfoot knives! :D

I love that John Primble knife :) Here's an old Joseph Rodgers I keep in my maintenance box for poking about in the blade wells of other knives, it only has covers on one side, and they're cracked!

Thank you for the link supratentorial.
It is a shame so many pictures are lost on the old threads due to the photobucket deal.

Jack Black,
That old Joseph Rodgers is just about broke in!
And that Sheffield Whittler , think of the stories it could tell.

Yes indeed! :D I rarely pass up an old knife, but in this case a friend of mine, who runs a flea-market tool stall, found it in the bottom of a box of old tools, and absolutely insisted I take it away with me, despite my protestations! :D

Here's one I picked up recently for about $3 from the same market, an old Baxter. A shame about the broken blade, but I'll certainly be pocketing it

Sometimes, I'll buy a worn out knife just to get a look at a particular tang-stamp, or to get an example of a particular jigging pattern, or some other feature.

Originally a Lambsfoot, this old knife by Thomas Turner, came sharp, despite the heavily worn blade.

A shame about this old Sheffield Pruner :(

Some incredible images in this thread! Thanks for starting it Burnt Stag!:cool::thumbsup:

I think this old Abram Brooksbank started life as a Lambsfoot, it's seen a lot of use, but I still carry it sometimes :)

Fantastic handles on that one, Jack, and the Real Lambsfoot has turned into what appears to be a reasonable facsimile of a serviceable drop point!! I think I'd carry it EVERY day!:thumbsup::D
