Baldite and hollowdeller could you post the old Boncutter picture on the blade forum. I would like to forward the Bonecutter picture to shop and Kamis.
Thank you

Here you go Yangdu. The one on top. The bottom is Sgt K's

Thank you for the help

There were some BC pics here that better show off the bevel width. Anybody have those?

Those are all of HI ones by Sgt Khadka - which are perfectly fine IMO. It's the latest ones by other kamis that some people (including myself) are not too pleased with, mainly because the bevel is way too obtuse and the edge is not as thin as the ones by Sgt Khadka.

I believe Aunty is asking for pictures the old ones produced by the now out-of-business GK Khukuris (which are what the HI Bonecutters are based on). Here's the other pictures I managed to dig up from this thread - all by hollowdweller I believe:

Right-most is BC:

Second from Right in this one:

Here's what I'm talking about

(hollowdweller's) Original GK Khukuris Bonecutter - the bevel takes up about 1/3rd of the blade's width:

(ilbruche's) Older Sgt. Khadka - different style and blade profile, but the bevel still takes up about 1/3rd of the blade's width:

An example of the latest Bonecutters by a kamis other than Sgt. Khadka - The bevels take up only ~1/6th of the blade's width:

While these new "bonecutters" would still make great kukris in their own right, it doesn't quite fit the bonecutter's original intent: That is, a wide bellied, thick spined kukri combined with a VERY acute edge. This combination of weight and a fairly thin edge allows for a very deep bite and penetration into the target - hence the name, "bonecutter". The newer bonecutters, with their much more obtuse bevels, simply do not fit this bill...

That is why I think the M-43 performs as well as it does it has a thin edge with the kukri's mass behind it.

I would still like to get one of the Sgt. K bonecutters or one of his super CAK's.

I like the looks of the older Bonecutters, esp. the GK ones in the pics above.

Killa,

If I knew you better I would say something like: I wish you could be a bit more specific in your posts! ;)

Very nice points and the visual reference is outstanding. My Murali bonecutter, recently acquired from a forum member, has a bevel exactly 1/3 of the blade. That coupled with what I would call a standard sized handle and it is a very nice kuk. After a few outings, it has already been promoted to my "truck kukri" status.

Haha - no prob man ;)

Just reinstalled Windows 7 after some computer issues and haven't had a chance to install Photoshop back on... drew that stuff on with the built in decorator on photobucket (which was a pain).

And yeah - I've been wanting to pick up a bonecutter for awhile now and was really quite excited by all those BCs on the DotDs last week. However, I was put off on picking one up due to the changed design :(

Ah windows, I remember the days of the ole BSOD and the frozen screens and computers...

Glad I left all that behind forever. :p

Now on topic, I am anxious to see the newly redone old style BC's to come and see how well the match up.
Maybe I will go ahead and grab another one, possibly a bit shorter since I sold off the two short ones of Murali's I had.
Don't get me wrong, the 22" Keyboard Kutter is a magnificent blade but sometimes a smaller blade is called for instead.

Warty,

Why do you prefer a smaller BC over the Keyboard Kutter? well obviously for smaller tasks like limbing?

I believed Murali's BC has a consistent bevel as Sarg't? The Chitlangi-esque pommel of Khadka's makes swinging more in control.

I prefer a smaller one for smaller tasks, otherwise I don't prefer a smaller one to the KK. ;)

OK, I keep seeing "GK" and I will admit that this one has me stumped.

Who or what is "GK"?

Warty,

i think GK= Gurkha Khukuri produced by now defunct Gurkha House?

GK was this dude who sold khuks. I dont' think he actually had a production facility like HI he either got them from other places under contract. However he said the Bonecutters were made by his Uncle Pradip which makes sense since they were fairly unique.

He actually had a forum on KF and Ramanon but then went back to Nepal. Then he came back and brought some more Bonecutters, the larger ones, Fiddleback got one on that go around and I snagged a couple. At that time he was working at an Indian restaraunt in Cinncinati!

Anyway after that he once again disappeared, so it's good we managed to get HI to make them since I think the design is excellent:thumbup:

Gasp - is warty a mac user? Not that I dislike them or anything... Just that I generally use Win 7 most as I game a decent bit. I actually have Win 7, Win XP, Ubuntu and Snow Leopard all on my comp. I was toying around with trying to run my i7 at 4.25GHz from a stock of 2.66GHz and ended up corrupting some files, hence the need for a reinstall. Those are really the only times I've had problems with BSODs or other issues

Agreed! I've been wanting to pick up a BC for awhile now and probably should have picked up yours when I had the chance. I didn't realize these new ones would have such obtuse bevels though. Oh well... I guess now I have $ to put towards the old-style BCs when they come out!

Thanks for the better explanation man! I only knew the gist of it and was curious about the background. Really looking forward to HI's more authentic rendition

Yep! I just haven't toyed around with OSX enough to see it happen though. The only real reason it's more difficult to manage on OSX is because it's harder to toy around with the system settings. Fairly easy in Windows and practically necessary in Linux.

And yeah - I can't wait for the classic bonecutters to start getting cranked out! I just love the "leaf" shape on them... I personally find it more aesthetically pleasing and it's not like a (predominantly) chopping tool really needs to have a particularly pointy tip to begin with ;)
