Old Fixed Blade Construction

It always bothered me too. I never could figure how a large enough quantity of files could be found to produce knives.

I always figured the truth was more like, he made his first one with an old file then ordered some steel! šŸ˜‚.

I mean there had to be better sources than worn out files.
Perhaps this was true during the war where steel was rationed for key military industries.

I'm surprised the bolt/file connection is so close to the guard and that the file tang was cut so short. It seems like the knife would have been stronger if the file section was longer inside the handle. As you noted, the connection does look pretty weak on the lucite knife.

After looking at photos, I think I can answer my own question...the file tangs were probably that short to begin with.
