Old Friends Friday

Great choice for today Jack. Not just one of "our better forum knives" but one of the better knives... period. ๐Ÿ™‚

Back in the day when I was an avid upland game getter this red stag, lock-back was my Grail Knife. Now that hunting has become pretty much a thing of my past it doesn't get carried as much. It is still an exceptional knife so today I'm carrying it just because it is an Old Friend.

Thank you very much James ๐Ÿ˜Š That certainly is an exceptional knife buddy, though I understand about changing needs ๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ‘

A few years back, there was a thread here on the knives of Spanish maker Jose Antonio Herreros. A few of us used to post there, along with Jose himself. His knives were interesting, and not too spendy, and were briefly seen here quite often. My first knife from Jose was a Vendetta, but I wanted a slipjoint, which I might carry everyday, as an addition to my Lambsfoot. Jose only did one slipjoint, and I asked for him to make me one in 1095. The result was attractive, but it's quite a bulky knife in the pocket, and since it's not easily pinched open, the very shallow nail-nick was a bit of an irritation for me. It never really became an Old Friend, but it does remind me of Jose, who was always a nice guy to deal with, and of the camaraderie of the small group of us who posted in that thread

I wish they'd done that with my old Wenger World Scout Knife, instead of just sending me a replacement (without the World Scout Knife etch) :(
I spent (probably far too) many enjoyable days with friends and dogs chasing various and elusive small game. Possibly why I have a soft spot for bird and trout knives. Here's a pre-1950 Western that brings back warm memories of those bygone days.

Have a good day my friends.
A beautiful Old Friend James :)

I was in country anyway, having flown Carly to the Basel Zoo in my Lear jet.

That was clueless of them with yours.

Always great to see the Space Lamb... it landed in good hands. ;)
