"Old Knives"

I have been waiting for this one to arrive, I was very pleased to come across this one, I was so kindly gifted a well loved version of this knife that was worn away to almost nothing- and yet still an incredible piece.

I understand that a lot of my Knife friends may think this isn't too much to be excited over, but.... for me this Knife hasn't been an easy one to come across, and is the very best yet I myself have managed to obtain, and is an important part of my sears range of Knives.
The Sears range of Knives was immense as we know, but for me to find an example like this has been hard, it has the earlier Sears Brand name Stamping of: STA- SHARP ( over ) S.R & Co.

The Stag is perfectly Hafted, so very thin to the Liners- and wonderful examples of Stag at that, the Knife has been used, but still in nice condition.
The Doglegs Frame is very nicely finished with coined Liners and the Center Liner has extra treatment.

The Main Blade is Sabre Ground on the Mark side, and Flat Ground Pile side, the Pen Blade is a Wharncliffe Shape with a nice Curve. Definitely a very nice example of early Camillus's work specifically made for Sears Roebuck.

Here is my other example - as worn as this Knife is- I think this Knife still commands respect! you can see why once I had this that if I were lucky enough to come across a decent example I would have to pounce....

Nice doglegs! I wish modern makers would cut their stag like this instead of just slapping thick scales on the knife and then grinding off half of the bark to have the scales match the bolster thickness at each end.

I picked up a pretty decent shapleigh, made by schrade cut. It’s the same pattern as the SO8814NP that’s in the cut co catalogs. Very attractive knife with the slant bolsters and DE branding. Waterfall cell handles. It has an etch but is hard to see even in person.

Woodside lumber co must have liked the schrades cause they still used them for advertising in the 1950’s when this keen kutter branded schrade walden 881 was made, also with waterfall cell.

Paul, love those 2 advertising knives, I would imagine they gave them to their best customers, very unusual for you to find 2 patterns in very nice condition from the same company.

Beautiful diminutive whittlers Rob. I especially like the last one with the creamy scales.

I am happy to post this Miller Bros.View attachment 1543675View attachment 1543676

Dwight, that is a beautiful Miller Brothers, that middle size rope knife is very hard to find in that condition, they are very well made knives. These are the 3 Miller Brothers rope knives that I know of.

Picked up this Ulster utility knife that I found interesting in that it has a clip main and a Phillips screwdriver, it never had a bail and is a fairly compact package. I wonder if it was made with spare parts from the 10th Mountain Division knives or was it another version military issue knife.

Thank you John. Much appreciated and that is a fine set of the three. I hope to find them all eventually. :)

veitsi_poika veitsi_poika Kevin that Streamline celluloid is very easy on the eyes. It amazes me that it can remain in such a pristine condition.

I always love seeing that trio of Millers Augie, amazing group and each Knife on its own is a very fine Knife!
The Ulster is a good one too! I mentioned in a earlier post one or two pages back in this Thread about the Variants of these Knives.

That is really something special Kevin. The cork screw seems to have an additional little "arm" that slides out as well?
Thanks Dwight :) If you look at the 1st pic and the 5th pic, you can see how the corkscrew "slides" to the right and then you can pivot it downward and it really "snaps" in place when it's in the deployed position. Really neat design  When the corkscrew is in the closed position, you cannot rotate it down at all... it confused me at first LoL.

Nice one Cal- There's a great Solid Knife that looks good at the same time!

Nice Champagne there Kevin, makes you admire the skill set of these Cutlers even more so.

Here's a Cat I picked up, very nice Bone, the very tip has pinged off- iwill retip this Knife without anymore Blade loss and repost a bit later on...
Otherwise a very nice Knife!

Here's a I*XL I picked up a while ago, the Blades are pretty much untouched as in no sharpening marks, uncleaned - the Photos seem to show longitude scratch marks - this is from me wiping the Blades with an Oily Rag but i" in the Flesh" there are no Scratches. Handles from what I can tell are Pressed Stag Bone - interesting that you can see a Sawcut pattern in the Pressed Bone as well, one of the reasons why I obtained the Knife just to have a closer look.
Far from the most attractive I*XL you can find- but interesting.
