"Old Knives"

One of my favorite threads and my participation comes and goes due to what's pushing my knife interest button at the time ;)

I rec'd the final installment from selling my restoration business to a former employee two years ago. He's a young man that suffered from some poor life decisions but really turned his life around. The bank helped him with the first half of the purchase then he and I had a gentleman's agreement for paying the balance and he never faltered.

I wanted a special knife to mark the occasion and I picked up this Remington Radio Jack, circa 1920-1940. Crocus finish on the main, both blades full, centered and rock solid with a nice stout pull. Adverting the Hanover Shoe Company, established in 1899 and was located in Hanover PA.

I couldn't pass another vintage Scout knife (pre WWII) and this "Campers" from Robeson just had beautiful bone that caught my eye. I have the exact knife that's close to mint aesthetic wise but with a dead main having no snap. This one has snap on all blades with no play at all, a really good knife to carry

Both wunderful examples and sweet celebratory purchases Paul 🤩:thumbsup:
The bones and blades on the EO Remi really grab one’s eyes and the Robeson’s no slouch either. Those jigged patterns and fades are really top-notch, not to mention the shields… very knice indeed !!

Two wonderful knives, Paul!!

Fabulous knives guys! Charlie, you're killing me with all those Schrade's.

Here is one I picked up a while ago, first time I ever saw this mark and as most of you know I am not big on German made knives but had to have this one. Funny there was a comment from someone on another forum that said the inked numbers ruined the knife. I love ink on the blades!! The Indian trail, or worm groove bone, on the knife is really sweet.

Hi everyone, I've been on a knife vacation but my wife dragged me to the antique store today... Could not pass up this old Jaeger Bros fixed blade! Just love it 🙂

Had to renew my subscription to BF so must've been a while since I've been on the Porch... Now I have to get caught up on what everyone has been posting 😉

Glad to see some familiar names, hope everyone has been well!

Paul - WOW!!
As everyone has said my friend- two beautiful knives!

That Radio Jack is superb, that was one very nice score- that Robeson.... man - so that would be one of the Mastercraft series Paul?
I think it is ? has that got the Bronze Bearings my friend?

Absolutely Wicked knives matey - now I am jealous!!!

Nice Knife Mike- can I ask- and I truly appreciate everyone's passion and love for their Knives and appreciate that Knife collecting is a personal thing in a very big way, what is it that kind of steers you clear of German made Knives kind Sir?

Well for one thing money is one issue, I really like knives period and would buy way more than I do now if I had the funds. That has been the way it's been since I started collecting. So, I had to make choices and in looking at knives and deciding what to buy American knives look better to me. Not all mind you but in my opinion most. There are a few things about German made knives I don't like and again it's not all of them. I don't like that you can see the pivot pin on alot of them. I also don't like the chunky stag that is used on alot of them. I also love the history of knives and the towns they were made in, that's why the advertising etc have been important to me. I would rather know the history of knives in this country then Germany, if that makes sense. Most that know me know that I collect a wide range of knives. At one time I was mostly going after anything marked New York since I grew up there. That is why I have picked up so many odd knives that are marked NY. Even than I have been limited to what I go after. I always liked Italian switchblades but never knew enough about them to know what to pay etc. A really nice guy helped me with that years ago and so I've been on the hunt for them lately.

I am also not a fan of going after Remington's and Case knives. Many fakes and way to pricey for me. Now some of you are saying but Mike you have some high-end knives that you must have paid dearly for so how can knives be too pricey?? Well for the most part I have been very lucky in finding high-end knives I can afford. As my buddy Barry tells me, "You are going to hell with the prices you pay"

I know I rambled some but thanks for asking. I will say that the last time I made that comment here about not going after German knives the comment was bombarded with comments defending German knives and their beauty. I never said they weren't nice, beautiful, just that I don't go after them or like most of them.
