"Old Knives"

I think many peoples "Knife rooms" would be a guarded vision they wouldn't want on the net, and most times a "Knife room" is often something completely different.

I have been in some "rooms" that have taken my breath away but always shy from speaking about who's and where, and to be honest I was intimidated because of the respect I have for the Owners and the privilege to be in the position to handle some outstanding knives and the work involved in getting the collections to where they are now is at times decades of work - hard work and LOTS of money.

I'm always self conscious about contamination on my hands - and ask the Owner to wipe them down after I have handled the Knives - in fact I wear gloves for this reason when I handle my Knives as many times I have come to do a maintenance Mineral Oil / R-Wax only to find the beginning of Rust
Here in New Zealand - especially where we were before had huge Humidity - so its a massive thing to handle knives and trust they wont go "South'.
If I am asked I make it very well known that my collection is in a safe room at a friends, and where they are not many people know, for something that is uninsurable and would be the very first thing for a Burglar to steal- they are not going to be an easy find!

Scary stuff when you think about it eh!😟

Lots of truth in what you say, Duncan!! I've posted some pics of storage, etc, but not everything. But pictures of neat knives show the best parts anyway!!
Some old Teardrop Harness Jacks - a pattern gone out of style for a while until Bill Howard brought it back at Queen, and later, GEC!!Rare TDs 2.jpgRare TDs 3.jpgRare TDs 4.jpg

Wow that’s a trio there Charlie. Awesome examples- Charlie - are these the inspiration of that stunning HJ1 ?

The more I look at those Hj’s the more I am mesmerised- the Utica and Sears look like they share DNA as do they all apart from the middle HJ with that punch and slightly different styled kick, would Utica have been responsible for all these three Charlie?

Would LOVE to know more about
“ the Ralph Brown of San Francisco “ never have I seen that stamping on another Knife Charlie - all I can find is a merchandise type store in San Fran🤔🤔

Very appropriate comments, Duncan.
Love those old harness jacks, Charlie!
Here's a KeenKutter for you to see, Dan! A little rough, but all there!Rare Old HJs A.jpg

Another rare brand, "Hackett, Walther and Gates, Hardware Co."Rare Old HJs B.jpg

And an "Electric Cut Co. Newark, NJ", Teardrop knife. Similar to teardrop shaped knives in the previous post!!Rare TDs 7.jpg
This last "Electric" was made before New York Knife was purchased and adopted the Electric name as a secondary brand!!

Used to think my sheepsfoot jacks were hard to find but how about a spey blade jack, I've got spey barlows in the collection but this is the first jack I've seen or found.

Buffalo Cutlery Co which was the brand for Buffalo Wholesale Hardware Company in Buffalo NY. Goins states 1900 to 1920, they did not make knives and I've found information stating they had knives made in Germany and by Schrade Cut co, this one sure has what looks to be early Schrade pick bone. 3 5/8"with what appear to be full blades. It was badly rusted so I had to do a little more cleaning than I like.

It's too much of a mess, Ralph!! Maybe some day!! 🤣
I must of been feeling pretty assertive last night, I would normally not be that forward. I agree with Duncan (anonymity) is a good thing in this day and age, you can never be to careful about what it is shared on the web these days. Hell of show Charlie… my head is spinnin. I especially like The Ralph Brown HJ. 👏👏👏

Wonderful follow up by Charlie with outstanding examples of The Waynorth Home Town, Mr. Paul Hilborn has gifted some outstanding Knives - The generous Soul he is, That TL-29 Charlie I know Paul would have had you in mind when he purchased that simply because of the Buffalo Stamp if I know Paul at all!

Here is a Buffalo Scout - loved greatly in the past and even more - so now as this too was a Buffalo gifted to me by Paul as he knows I have a soft spot for Scouts.... ( please forgive the VERY old photo's 😟
