"Old Knives"

Hi R8shell πŸ˜‰ I know Schrade is known to have made a lot of knives for Weck... found this one below in the 1929 Schrade catalog; matches your knife. The pins seem to be worn flush/smooth with the wood handle surface indicative of pocket wear. And if someone carries a knife a lot, the pins can remain pretty polished. It looks like old cocobolo. If someone re-handled this, they did a pretty good job! πŸ˜‰ I doubt someone would make a great effort to try to fake an old Weck. I'm curious what others think. Either way, I love Weck knives and $20 is a good find 😁

Here's a Weck (Schrade πŸ˜‰) scout knife I have and a side by each of Weck & Schrade lobsta knives 😁

Hey, Kevin, nice to see you posting! Thanks for the catalog pic and input. πŸ‘

I don't usually worry too much about fakes/frankenknives because I tend to collect more obscure brands, in well-used condition. It doesn't seem worth anyone's time to cobble that sort of knife and then sell it for under $30. This one just had me wondering if someone, at some point, had taken it apart, maybe to delete a broken pen blade.

That Weck Camper is fantastic, with great bone!

Waiting for the football to start, I decided to clean the old E. Weck and put a fresh edge on it. While some old knives are pieces of history that shouldn't be modified, it's not like this one hadn't already been sharpened, used, and sharpened again. Already bearing the rough marks of coarse grinding.
I didn't want to remove a lot of steel, I just straightened out the recurved heel, removed the chips, and restored the pointy tip. Gonna drop it in my pocket tomorrow.

Eye Witness Sleeveboard Pen, luxuriously handled in Pre-ban!! At a hair over 3 1/4", it's just large enough for my old hands to make use of it!! ;) So purty though!!
Unused as far as I can tell!! Probably not old enough for the Golden Age of Sheffield thread, so I thought I'd post it here!!!Eye sleeve 1.jpgEye sleeve 2.jpgEye sleeve 3.jpgEye sleeve 4.jpg

Campbellclanman Campbellclanman , Duncan, I forgot where you asked the question about the "Red Stone Heart"?? Here it is with a rough piece, and a knife!!
The stone is Red Jasper, famous throughout history as a decorative stone!!
The knife is by Cosimo Mirando, father of Felix and Michael, the founders of Imperial Knife Co. in 1917 - sold to Schrade in 1947 - continued associated to Schrade until 1987!!
The Mirandos were born in Frosolone, Italy, with iron thumbnails!! I have 3-4 of their knives, and every one is a nail breaker!!! Maybe that's why they were so successful!!C Mirando Sfilato1.jpg

Wow Charlie- that Red Jasper Stone in it's Raw state is still attractive, I love Rocks like that that have all that "activity" going on! Thank you for that charlie :)

I remember you showing a couple? of those early Mirando knives before- man what treasures they are! Obviously that Knife would be a struggle for me to open if that's the case 😩 My Nails would fold just holding the Knife by the sounds of it.

Now you need to show the blades on that Italian jewel Charlie.

The die David posted might have stuck the old Challenge in this group of challenge.

The bottom knife in the first scan is marked Krakauer, Zork , and Moyes Suc.'s El Paso Tx ( that's a lot on a tang stamp) . I believe it is Challenge made because of construction and the ethnic (Jewish) connection between the hardware owner and the Challenge president. All the others are Challenge marked, with the forth down ,having the arch stamp.
