Nice little knife!!I love those little guys and the scissor is always a bonus.
NYK.
Thanks!Nice knives fellows and Rachel.![]()
I have 8 Keen Kutters lobsters with the nail file. All of them are like your pearl one, flush with the frame with a bit of relief cut out to give access. I have two Sheffield made lobsters with files. One is like you pearl handled one, and one is like you Boker. Thanks!
There's something I've found interesting about these little knives with files on the back. I only own two, but most I've seen pictures of are like this Boker:

The frame is cut out, to accommodate the file, with the barest hint of a nail relief to lift it.
On the Morley, the file sits flush, and there's more of a nail relief.
What's even more unusual to me is there's a nail nick cut into the side of the file itself.

As I said, I only have these two examples to go by, but I'm curious if anyone's seen one like this. It feels like a more elegant bit of engineering.
Hmm, I wonder if the flush style was more common. It's very cool either way.I have 8 Keen Kutters lobsters with the nail file. Wow! What a marvelous little manicure knife. This Robeson Lobster is quite an engineered knife! The main side is constructed like a "whittler" with a main blade and two very small secondaries either side!
There is an EO notch on the file side!! The wider file on the back, also has a full length narrow insertion file on its side, that acts as a "matchstrike" pull and a file, which shapes the end of a fingernail when it is inserted and worked back and forth. It works very well as a pull and a file!!View attachment 2750569
Some are quite intricate!!Wow! What a marvelous little manicure knife.
This could be a whole new rabbit hole, discovering all the clever variations out there.
Charlie, That Robeson is superb, What talent it must have taken to put together such a Knife, I remember Stan Shaw was talking about putting together the small Pearl Knives and the difficulty they faced, let alone them knowing how expensive the Pearl was, he really leant on that side of things, so the skill set must have been insanely high to be able to fit this Knife together, and in the end, the ways everything nestled in together so beautifully is remarkable!
Interesting you should mention Stan Shaw, Duncan!! I took another look at that Ibberson above, and sure enough Stan's initials are in it, with the year 57!!!This Ibberson has a pull on the file, and an EO notch for access!View attachment 2750903
Welcome to the Rabbit hole!!
