"Old Knives"

Thanks Charlie - I have a love for these old congress pens (and the old full congress knives too, for that matter). I stopped looking for more old Case XX 62052's after I got that one.

You've been laying down so many awesome Robesons that I haven't been able to speak. :D Thank you so much for showing all of these -- collections like this are the only old "catalogs" we've got for Robeson after all. This particular stockman is one of my favorites you've shown so far, an amazing pattern:

Thanks ZeroGee.

I know I posted that 750 stockman as being 4", but I think it might be larger than that. It is one hefty handful of knife.

They made the same knife with a smooth nickel-silver handle.

That sabre-cut master clip is a beauitiful blade.

Just a couple of nice Robeson script ShurEdge swellend jacks. I really like this pattern - 3 3/8" closed, nicely shaped and rounded - not quite a teardrop but a bit fancier than a standard jack. I especially like those small cap bolsters.

That is a nice Jack pattern, Dwight!
I am lucky enough to own one also - in a Harness Jack configuration!

That's a real beaut Charlie! I think I like the looks of the clip better than the spear in this pattern. It's just a really nice, unassuming pattern that feels great in the hand and in the pocket. And the gorgeous bone that's jigged around the curve doesn't hurt either.

I like the extra pin.

I do too. :) I love when I see modern patterns with that extra pin -- it just says "we build 'em right!" to me. I was pleased to see the modern 31048 CV barehead yeller slimline trappers have the extra pin. The Case barehead swayback jack does too - as does the new Case backpocket -- the Old Dog is sneaking them back in.

Does anyone know of a jack that Charlie doesn't have in a harness jack configuration?

Well, it's not exactly a jack, but there's an old harness half-congress with a sheepsfoot at one end and a punch at the other that Charlie doesn't have. If he did, we'd have heard about it -- chicken lips doesn't begin to describe how rare that antique beastie is. I've only ever seen cuts in old catalogs of it.

Oh my...those Robeson jacks are special. The color and jigging of the bone is mahhhhvelous.

You are right, ZG. I don't have a Congress double-end HJ.
But I keep looking!!

The old Robeson could flat throw down on jigged bone -- they didn't take seconds to anybody on that. And they had quite a range of jigging styles too.

Dwight, those are both really nice knives. The color of the bone is unusual on both.
Charlie has taunted me with that little harness jack of his before.

Robeson made a variety of these jacks with different pattern numbers.
I have a few. I don't think I've posted them before as some are cleaned
knives and others a little lacking in the condition department.

I think most of these are 3 3/8" long; one or two might be smaller or larger.

This green bone handled jack has a bow-tie shield, a master spear and pen blade.
Pattern number 626639.

This knife has brown bone handles and a bow-tie shield, with master clip
and pen blade.
Pattern number 626636.

Here's another 626636, but with green bone handles and bow-tie shield.

626636-1B.jpg

This one has brown bone and a bow-tie shield. The master clip is down some
from full, but still a pretty little knife.
It's 3 1/4" long.
Pattern number 626513.

This one's a bare-head with cream/brown bone handles, an oval shield and
master clip and pen.
Pattern number 626240.

626240B.jpg

This one's a bit larger, 3 3/4". It has brown bone handles, a master clip and
pen blade.
Pattern number 626056.

That's it for regular/tear drop jacks. Notice that I do not have a harness jack
like the one Charlie C. posted above.
Neither do I have any with that almost oxblood colored bone that Dwight
posted.
Robeson did, indeed, have a variety of bone and jigging patterns.

I always loved the lines on these Delrin Immitation Winterbottom bone they started in the late '70s-early '80s.

I love the lines and the warm look of the scales, they were made well back then and were meant to be used and so I have a collection of about 5-6 different pattern with Winterbottom Bone that I EDC regularly.

Here's a Bower Germany 2 7/8" pen
I recently acquired. Just couldn't resist the fiery pearl.
Having some trouble capturing the purples and green
hues but they're in there.

Krusius Brothers Germany KB EXTRA half-congress/congress pen. It's 3 1/4" closed with some sweet thin stag. This one can stand toe to toe with almost anything coming out of Sheffield back then - top quality work. Brass liners, iron bolsters.
