"Old Knives"

4.25 isn't really that big.
Ain't that the truth??? 😳
A stockman, Sunfish, Moose, and English Jacks that size or a bit more (ie: Old Timer 858OT at 4.625") are my favorite loose in pocket carry. (However, the stockman being my "favorite" pattern (I think it is anyway ... I mite be rong.) gets the most pocket time of the bunch.)
The 858 has round bolsters. I don't know if square bolsters would carry as well.
I have not tried a 5" Daddy Barlow yet.

All hands on deck. Opinions wanted and needed on this knife. It is not mine, I would have bought it ,but it was already sold . I was permitted to photograph it at the Central KY Show in Aug. It is a beautiful stag Russell I don't know what. 4" wharcliffe frame like a farmers jack, with a rope or cotton sampler main blade. It looked antique and very unusual.

Despite the huge straight blade, I'd still call it a Farmer's Jack!!

WinMag , I really enjoyed your knife and it engaged the big dogs.

To steal Duncan's words:

Charlie that little Catt is a stunner - love everything about it, and it's in incredible condition!- Wow!

Augie that Miller Bros is a beauty, that Swedge!!

As well that Easy opener!! What a gorgeous Knife my friend, early Camillus had some outrageous Bone didn't they!

Dan, that Keen Kutter sure is fine! Nice work between you and Mike there! Mike has gifted me more than one Dan.

Thanks for your words Duncan , and was that exquisite tuxedo a Roland's ?

You can't go wrong with a J Rodgers Jose'.

I would love to see it up close. The reflection on the main blade makes it impossible to even zoom and inspect this picture. Closeup photos of the tang could be interesting. It appears that the master has a mirror finish, but it doesn’t look like a real crocus. It looks like a modern polishing job. If no catalog shows this version of the frame, it is suspect. Perhaps a welded blade. A good closeup of the tang area might shed light on that.

That Stag is just amazing in that Russell Lyle, what a shame you missed that one, weird isn’t it we have seen two “ in the flesh “ and a catalogue cutting from our friend Herder, and I had never laid eyes on one before. ( which doesn’t say a lot🤣 but from my perspective ).

Lyle yes my friend Roland’s DNA is on that wee Tuxedo 😊👍 Did you remember him sharing it with others on AAPK?

Thank you Jeff and Augie 😊👍

At first glance, this Empire Jack looks like a Boy's knife, at 3 1/4"!!! But careful study reveals a very finely finished knife, not usual for Boys' cutlery!! Carefully squared, final finish to flat sides, with all edges relieved; an engravable shield!! Nice long pull, the ghost of a fancy etching, and a pen secondary. This one seems too fine for a boy's rough handling!!
I'd say it's more of a Jack knife for a gentleman!!:)
Likely from the turn of the last century!! Marked Empire Winsted!!

That's definitely suitable for a gentleman's vest pocket.

Synthetic handles - can anyone suggest a year or era for this neat little knife??

Wostenholms are tough to date as you know, based on the pattern and synthetic handles I would think around WW2 but I could be way off. I like that pattern.

What a great I*XL Charlie, Like Augie I would think around mid 30's - WW2 era? Haven't seen an I*XL like that before!

Lovely Ebony Boys Knife Augie, can see some nice colour features in the Wood
