"Old Knives"

Now Mike, why would you keep that nice knife from us??? Nice Jack; with faceted bolsters!! It's about time!!! 😁

I don't remember if I've posted this old English Jack, but it's a nice old Taylor's Eye Witness, at just over 4"!!!
Typical Sheffield stag fitting from the old era!!! Not marked England, so could be late 19th century knife!!!!View attachment 2938561View attachment 2938562
Still full and snappy after all those years!!
Old Engineer Old Engineer , Harry, are you watching??? ;)
You have my attention now Charlie !!!!! That is what I have looked for for a while . An old TEW in Stag . It don't get much better than that for me . Thank you for the great photos my friend .

One of the most impressive knives I've managed to add to the pile recently. A KA-BAR large 5 3/8" folding hunter with a locking swing guard. The swing guard is also the blade lock and has a Dec 4th 1923 Patent date on it. The knife is mid 1920's to 1930 with KA-BAR Reg. US. Pat. Off. tang stamp front and Union Cut Co Olean NY stamp on back.

I didn’t know that those came with a match striker pull.

What a knife!

This one was unexpected, but it's mine now. In looking around a bit, this German made Magnetic Cutlery is from 1900-1930 range. Most knives I found under this brand are metal handled or novelty type knives, so a jigged elephant toe is not the norm. Has anyone ever saw a toe pattern under this brand before? I looked through Altamore's sunfish book, and it doesn't mention anything about this brand. Same with Scott King's old website going over all the old historic brands that made the toe pattern.

galvanic1882 galvanic1882 , Mike - any opinions, info on this one????
I don’t know much about them. I’ve seen other knives marked the same with bone and wood handles but I can’t remember ever seeing a toe. Then again for the most part I don’t pay too much attention to German made knives. They were importers not manufacturers and most if not all their knives came from Germany

That truly is a spectacular find, thanks for sharing, Love the Kabar stamped dog head emblem.

David Anthony is a knife historian, especially with Pennsylvania brands. He confirmed Magnetic Cutlery were operated out of Philly in the early 1900's, and had all their knives made in Germany. And he has saw an elephant toe only once before with that stamp. Pretty cool!

I was able to learn a bit more about that Magnetic elephant toe knife, and narrow down the date and details. Although most Magnetic knives were made in Germany, the elephant toe pattern knife was US made from somewhere between 1911-1923 age range. A fellow collector with a lot of experience and knowledge of all the antique brands that made elephant toe patterns says that Magnetic Cutlery had this pattern made for them from Clay Cutlery in Andover, NY. Originally the knife factory in Andover was run by the Platts brothers, who sold it to Clay Jordan in 1911. Clay was originally affiliated with the AJ Jordan wholesale company of St. Louis, MO. The factory burned down in 1923.

Very interesting amount of research and information regarding this unique knife. I'm glad I crossed paths with it.
