"Old Knives"

I don't post here much, but I am truly amazed at the beauty of the knives shown here. We have quite a few old knives gathered up, but not many in the fabulous condition that I have seen in this thread.

I thought I would post one of my favorite old knives today. I found a listing in the Northfield catalog c1869 that says it cost $15.00 a dozen back then. I just love the color of old ivory.

Kathy ,
That is pretty spectacular
Thanks for adding that one. I've never seen anything quite like that one,I think.

Thanks, Vince!

The Wostenholm & the Challenge are both AWESOME!

Here is a Wostenholm Champagne knife, used but still beautiful IMO.

Great knives showing up, thanks for the compliments all.
I think this thread needs more representation by Utica- here are some pre Kutmaster examples that I have.

Paul,

That is a really cool picture of these four knives! Thanks for sharing your collection with us.

I notice the bottom equal end jack has a different tang stamp than the 3 others? It appears that the others use a arched stamp?

That is beautiful. More pics and info? Please?

I don't have any really good pictures, this will have to do:

That shield seems to be popular with Challenge, and it is uncommon on other brands (and those may be contract made by Challenge). Another of my favorites is this Challenge:

That Wostenholm pearl folder is so nice! I constantly look on the bay and a few other sites for old Wostenholm's and sheffield made pearl folders and they ALWAYS have broken blades or when they dont the pearl is cracked and missing.

Paul thanks for those 4 too...I love the second's fluted bolsters but man that first one looks like it never saw a days use!!!

WOW! Rare to see a knife that age with the pearl scales still in tact.

Here's a couple of ebony Jacks, a NYK Hammer Brand and an AJ Jordan. Similar knives, similar age, similar swedging on the pen blades, made a half a world apart.

Here is a closer look at the jigging on that Challenge Jack. It does have a basketweave kind of look to it. It has left a few diamond shape pieces of bone in some areas.

Here's a simple Boy's Jack, with some basketweave jigging to compare. Maybe it was a fad at the time!!??:D
This one came from a salesman's roll.

Some really nice examples of oldies showing up here.
Keep up the good work everyone!
That group of Uticas has me salivating, Paul. You don't see many out there, compared to other brands.
