"Old Knives"

Nice comparison on the jigging Charlie! Plus that knife is awesome. I think it needs a few years of pocket wear to be an exact match.
I wish I had more information on Utica History regarding dates , tang stamps, etc. I know the Company was formed in 1910 and the Arched stamp was used until about 1937 when the Kutmaster Stamp started to appear.
I'll have to get an issue of Knifeworld from September 2010, I heard there was a good article about Utica in it.

Here's a nice old Remington Jack knife (R155)
really nice bone, excellent snap and full blades.

From the owner & my friend,

" 12" OAL, 1901 - 1910, heavily used and sharpened over the last 100 years, blade is pitted, chipped and deeply scratched, heavily patinated, yet still thin and sharp enough to shave with. Solid ivory handle is beautifully decorated with a relief carved wheat stalk
and flower intertwined with the word " BREAD ", also in deep relief. There are many darkened nicks and scratches in the handle along with several age cracks near the silver ferrule. The obvious upside to all the hard use is that mellow, " stick of butter " yellow patina that the ivory has acquired over time. The handle shape is the most comfortable I have ever used. The knife sees daily use in my kitchen slicing onions, olives, tomatoes and bell peppers for salads as well as trimming steaks and chops. The A.& N. C.S.L. stamp refers to the Army and Navy Co-operative Society Ltd., started in the 1870's by a group of Army and Navy officers in London to acquire and supply firearms, ammunition, saddlery, tack, other sporting equipment, cutlery and items of general use to it's members at very low prices. The stamp is generally a mark of high quality goods and typically more well known on firearms. Firearms so stamped are highly prized by most collectors. "

I picked this up for a song yesterday (less than the price of lunch), after a little cleaning it purdied right up! "Axel Nilsson" and "Sterling Service" on the blade, according to LG4 it was made between 1900-1914 for JM Thompson Hardware, a wholesaler in Minneapolis. The pearl is 100% intact and has great color, and it took very nice edges and still walks and talks. 2 3/4 " long.

Nice find here too, but I'm really liking your Dutch Boy paint AD you are using for a background. :)

this thread has been quiet for a few days- so here's another old knife. LF&C Moose 4 1/8" It has plenty of blade the Universal etch is still there on the spear blade. could be factory edge on the spear the clip has been sharpened a little.
The swedge on the spear is real nice. Nickle silver liners , bolsters and shield with the LF&C artificial stag handles.

here it is with Boris
LFC_Open_03.jpg

Boris does seem to like it, and why not? It is black, after all.

Very nice jigging on the handle material.

" Case 6217, XX era 1940 - 1964, 4 " closed, no oxidation, pretty much the same as the day it came out of the factory. Still has factory polishing compound in all the nooks and crannies that has never been cleaned out. Nice bone slabs with that real crisp, older style jigging . Basically, a swayback jack with a sheepfoot master. Along with a Wostenholm example of the knife you have seen previously, built a bit closer to the time of the patterns roots. "

That LF&C Moose really is nice! since the 2010 forum knife I've really come to appreciate equal end patterns like that...the etch still being visible is a nice touch for an older knife too.

The case above is just pristine, you really scored with that one Vince.
