" 3 1/4" closed, only 1/4" thick, a nice slim knife in hand and in the pocket. The pearl has survived nicely intact even after all these years and all those pins, wedged in between two bolsters per slab times four. One of only a few domestic built center bolster knives I've personally come in contact with, most seem to be English. Has ridiculous blade pull like the first few years Remington built knives. You think your nail is going to come off every time you open it. It has been carried and used, but is still in decent shape. Would be nice to know who built it for them. No one seems to know for sure. "

Very nice and quite possibly a product of Robeson Cutlery. They certainly made that pattern and the tang stamps are very suggestive of Robeson.

Nice knives Vince,Jason, and Paul those peachseeds.Paul you know I really like that curvy one.

Another unusual&interesting knife, you have an absorbing collection Lyle.

The handles are interesting, looks almost like scratting as you might see on very old knives. I'm even wondering if it could be something like 'jigged stag' ???

Is this a large knife like a Seahorse Whittler?

Many thanks, Will

Great looking knife Barry, I don't think anything can compete old Case bone.

A very old Providence Cutlery,Austria Swing guard lockback. It has horn covers with a nice patch that is hardly evident in most lighting. The gentleman previous owner, had in his notes very old. Goins and the guys say 1890-1914, they also list Germany, not Austria as country of origin.

Thanks for the comments guys! I love the old Case red bone, and no one seems able to produce it anymore. Maybe some of that "toxic dye" was used in it's production.

Lyle, that swing-guard is amazing! Very nice old piece!

I've remarked on this before, but the quality and durability of horn on old knives is often breathtaking. I really suspect they had different curing processes which have been lost. Modern horn handles can often give trouble.

The Austrian one Lyle is lucky enough to own, shows very attractive striping, it was maybe cut from the bias of the horn, choice bits sometimes were.

Thanks, Will

Will, most of the old horn handle knives (incl. straight razors) have been eatin up by them darn dermisted beetles. I'd consider myself lucky to have any ol' horn handles come into my hands intact. Congrats on that beauty!

Nice old CASE Barry! Looks like it would be a heckuva EDC! Very nice looking
Red bone. Congrats my friend...
