"Old Knives"

I posted this old Remington Raybestos advertiser in another thread that had little response and was soon 4 pages down so I thought I would add it here also. These were apparently given to Raybestos Brakes customers in 1927. This is the only complete set I have seen. I have seen a few of the knives without the box, penny, and card.

Great piece of history, and the knife too...

I thought I'd post this here (as well as in my swag thread ;) ).

This thread is the coolest string of coolness anywhere on the web. What a coffee table book it would make! Here is my oldest knife. The handle appears to be some composition, but it is not; it is an unknown wood, carved with a stylized representation of a head of wheat, appropriately enough. Goins 1998 edition puts it at 1825 until 1852.

Looks like that thing could take out Tonsils and lance boils?

Yes, I was unaware of the purpose of the blades until Robin pointed it out in my swag thread.

A tiny shadow pearl 4 blade New York Knife Co. never used. This stamp would place it 1860's.

What a treasure :)

Fantastic!

Nice Remington Charles, we are so lucky to have you posting here - thank you so much!

Jack, that lovely hall you have there, Goins has a I .HALL c1795 - 1830 JONATHAN HALL, Sheffield, with the comment the "J looks like an I" yet this knife has the opposite when it comes to the initial?

Yes, I noticed that (elsewhere) Duncan. I can't find any other J.Hall's working in Sheffield though, or elsewhere. Is it possible that the Goins entry (and others) are based on just one example? Do you think I might have to go into the Dragon's Den?! :D ;)

Lol... it would be worth a try Jack!
Gee that knife would have taken true Cutlers such as Stan himself to put together a knife like that - reminds me of the blades I have on my Peach-seed Schrade, which has the same coined liners etc....
