"Old Knives"

Yep Duncan, it would hurt someone! But I love the weight and heft of it.

Got this Remington R219 in today. Never been able to own one till now. Monster EO and snaps like a bear trap! About as HEAVY as a bear trap too.

Is that an Imperial-type hollow handle on that Remington?

I've been eyeing those lately also, bid on a few but not scored yet. SP, it should be solid, if it is the same as ones I've pursued. Nice hefty, know-ya-have-something knives.

Very nice Singin'.

Here's an old whittler I'd just like to add to this thread, so Ryan can see an example from CJ Johnson "Western Works' Sheffield. The knife measures just under 4" (closed) brass liners, stag , all the blades are marked identically with the CJ Johnson name and trademark flag and 'hand forged' on the pile side. All blades have a glazed finish and open and close with a solid "thunk'..very satisfying :D

What a beautiful old whittler! Super condition too.

Perry, don't carry that old Remington around water... you might fall in and that knife would be like an anchor! lol

Seriously, that is a very cool old EO.

Beautiful knives guys.

Mick I used to try and collect whittlers before I became engrossed with the pruners. That's a real lovely knife.

Noticed your hands( or whoever's ),they look like mine. The cure for cracked hands is to wear sanitary gloves at night while sleeping. Your body will use it's own moisture and heal faster this way than any creme or ointment. As a mason, believe me I've tried it all; "Udder Creme ",zinc oxide,"Cornhuskers,"Vaseline, etc, nothing is as effective. No creme, just gloves!

Thanks for the advice Lyle, years of hard graft and toil (honest :D ) have taken their toll.. not sure about the gloves in bed idea ..

Thanks Mick, I think I might have to keep an eye out for one of thier folders, especially one with stag covers. Lovely!

Nice CJ Mick...that is a beauty!! I have seen some great stuff from that Cutler firm.

Charles - another great knife, your pearls surely are a treasure!

Case made nice knives before WWII!

And some after as well! The only one I've seen of this pattern with jigged bone handles. Jim Sargent calls them "prototypes". I wonder if it's true?? This one is a ten dot.

I know this is an old post. But was wondering if you still have the knife, I am very interested in it!
My email is faspencer@gmail.com. Please let me know....
Thanks in advance

Here is my other Crossland Bros, Sheffield.
Information posted by Wellington (Mick) “Crosslands supplied the firm of John Watts, amongst others, with their BEST finished knives. This particular pattern was supplied to Watts as far back as 1893. In 1909 Crosslands charged 48 shillings (about £2-25p) per doz (14 to the doz). Watts then sold on the knives at 6 shillings each.”
