"Old Knives"

My William Rodgers, Sheffield c1850s.

Too awesome Charles. About as good as it gets. Three wide and all prettied up!

My grandfather's Schrade (made after 73 I'm told but all I ever remember him carrying, passed in 97) and my great grandfather's kabar. It was his teeth and story says he cut a man open and spilled his guts with it in an argument over a train arrival time lol. Anyway. If anyone knows more about the kabar and can give me info, I'd appreciate that.

I am at a loss of words to express my joy and wonder for the many Great beauties posted by so many in the many and various Traditional threads.

BF is my personal museum and information archive.

I will never be able to own any of these, but just seeing them and learning their history from so many is a true joy.

Recently, Mick, Codger Brad, Vince and JACK BLACK, Charles Lamb, Gen, wilfryjr and so many others - you too Duncan, SK and Mamba - not possible to name you all from Waynorth to Mark Nagle... forever.

Oh Yeah, Thanks to Spark and the Mods.

Mike H.

Mike - I think its very safe to say Thank YOU!!
I agree with you wholeheartedly - in fact I struggle with just how a knife can capture you...its really hard to explain....but it leaves you with an insane want for that knife - and more.

This place is just amazing - but not quite as amazing as my friends here who fill it!

Seeing the level of craftsmanship on this is a sobering experience. To think that a man has such skill, dexterity, patience and above all the eye for overall effect is deeply impressive. For me, it's akin to visiting a renowned piece of world architecture, the complexity and ultimate beauty is humbling and inspiring. So much to wonder at, many sincere thanks for showing this example of Sheffield at its zenith.

Regards, Will

Thank you Glenn! The only pinched, slanted and threaded bolster, older knife I've ever been able to buy.

Here is my one vintage switchblade marked Schrade / Walden. Lots of patina with full blade and the mechanics work great with great lockup.

I think it is celluloid kind of butterscotch color, but there is very little shrinkage.

Linktoderek - man that I*XL is a sweetheart!, probably mid 1800's to later 1800's - beautiful example of a great knife!

jujigatame - Sword Brand - oh boy - Camillus did good with that Brand - I haven't seen a 4 liner yet to disappoint me - I cant quite tell for the lighting in the photo -are the scales Jigged bone or Synthetic?

They are synthetic but with minimal shrinkage. Another shot of it alongside my other Camillus-made jacks of the same size.
