"Old Knives"

Thanks Duncan, look forward to seeing your pics my friend

Lot of nice old knives posted in the last few days, Thanks. Found this Craftsman Barlow this week, it was dirty but cleaned up well with full tight blades. I think it was make by Ulster in the 1960's.

Augie, are those Delrin handles on the Craftsman ?
Delrin can be useful for dating a knife: first used for knife handles by Schrade-Walden, 1960. Soon after that most knife companies began using it, a lot. However it can be difficult to differentiate Delrin from the earlier plastics.

Thought I would put up my Robeson Electrician's Knife and the Ulster model # 63 that I bought new back in 1961.The little ones around the Robeson are not new , but just useful for now props.

Thats something Harry, having your knives from 61 still. Even better is it sure looks like you have gotten quite a bit of use out of them, thats the whole purpose of a knife anyways isn't it.

Augie:That Ulster was the first good knife that I could afford to buy after just getting out of the Army .It has cleaned a lot of game and done a lot of work for me.

Thank you Duncan . I have never known for sure if it was bone or not on the Ulster. Back then , I did not know to ask and did not even care.
I had to rescue the Robeson Electrician a month or so ago because I had never seen one before . Saw lots of other brands , but never a Robeson and my Dad was an Electric Lineman for 50 yrs.

Harry, the bone on that Ulster is just great. I am sure there are tons of memories locked up in that old bone and steel!

Barry, very nice Robeson. The Cocobolo looks to have aged wonderfully.

Yes that knife was carried by me all across this country coast to coast and some European countries and Uzbekistan.Of course that was before 9-11 .

Wow- so if you think like me- Harry I feel kind silly but they would be my old friends - something I look forward to carrying big time - like MANY of my knives.
