"Old Knives"

Robin
The "Viper" is one of my favorites of yours!! Just an of the charts cool knife:D

KJ
Fantastic knife and the only other mustache shield I have seen besides the one i have. Just a great knife! Thanks for sharing

Thanks Gev and Joe, I think it's funny that such a nice old knife was used to sell Sheep delouser :D
I wish the box was mine, I found it online when researching Osmands Viper Dip and captured it.

Joseph Elliott (over) & Sons (over) Sheffield.
Just traded for this unusual pen knife. At 3 1/2" one might call it a double-end Jack.
Beautiful shape, and carefully selected mark side horn handle, could it be an exhibition or special display piece??
Mint and snappy like a Sheffield knife should be!

Charlie - a wonderfully different knife in absolute superb condition - LOVE Joseph Elliot's deep Stamping - I just cannot get enough of the early English stuff!!!

I finally have the time to spend with my knives after a crazy busy couple of years in my life. Here are some of the old farmers jacks that Lyle was kind enough to share with me, thanks so much my friend.
Sorry folks, photo bucket decided to flip some of the pics ;-((
Best regards

Top to bottom Schrade cut co, Walden, Walden.

This pics shows a mint full bladed composite with a close to full used FJ for comparison.

This pic showing a reshaped Master and a worn grafting blade.

Two Wostenholms, a Late composite stag in unused condition and a wonderful well used and pitted oldie with amazing stag.

Here's a Utica Rooster comb In wonderful bone and nice used condition.

Here is a Lockwood bladed FJ, Lockwood closed in 1933. Apparantly the blades were sold off sometime after the company closed and were made up by assorted cutlers and companies after the closing. Mint full blades.

Robin my friend, ( I have just about made my decisions - so will e-mail ;) ) I am loving watching your stunning collection of these Farmer Jacks grow - amazing!!!

I love those Wostenholms - the Old Stag is incredible - I very recently bought a very old carving set ( to go on Charlies Thread later ) with lovely coloured Old Antler.

Hey Lyle.... WATCH YOUR BACK my friend :D Robins sneaking up on ya!

Three uncommon marks. Large jack is marked ECHO, Pauls Bros New York. Levine says, offices in NY and Solingen, 1880 to 1900.

THIS!!! is a awesome big Jack LOVE IT!!! This knife has it all, lovely Bone, havent got my Glasses but from the Centre Spring Pin - its Hammered, Full Beautiful Blades, and a Giant Swedge 'n all!
Awesome Knife Robin.

Here's a good old knife by John Petty and sons.

Sorry Robin, I seem to be picking on you today - but I do remember you showing that knife before - now although the "shield" is pretty bulky - I darned well love that knife - shield and all - the Killer Stag is something else - this Etterick is just a wonderful example of yesteryear - just look at those smashing Stampings!!!

The shape of the razor states it's old, with the very squared off end, I have a few Razors at the moment - was teetering on the edge of starting to collect them, - but I think i will just buy the very very tidy ones or one like you have shown with a nice handle. I blew up the photo and between the pivot pin and the first line of the bamboo - I can barely see the swirl grain which maybe it might be Ivory - but you'd have to show us better photos - very cloe and very clear - commonly on the Razors they were a Composite, Celluloid or Bakelite - rarely Ivory.

thank you sir,it's not actually mine at moment....i have the opportunity to
swap something for it,just trying to make up my mind if i wanna swap...

robin, that is a beautiful ole knife friend....where do you guys find all
these beautiful knives?.....thanks for showing,jd

A really fantastic display of knives Robin

great Stabber Jack Joe

Robin once again fantastic line up of farmers, make me want to try this pattern. Charlie, you always find the best of the best the Joseph Eliot knives are stunning. Duncan, really great jumbo jack the bone is great looking. What appealed for me the most is Robin John Petty SBJ just play all the right tones for me, if you ever want to sell (why would you though?) just call me  The best thread in the best forum.
Mike

Howdy Mike my friend, That big Jack is another beauty of Robins - I was just quoting the photo - mind you he may add that in when I buy that viper before you lol ( joking my friend )

Mike, Jack,JD, Gev, JD and Duncan, thanks for the kind words. The much loved Farmers jacks are all due to the kindness of Lyle and his recognition of my passion for the pattern. Thank you again my friend, you have given me much needed focus.
I thought I should explain the word Big I used to describe the Pauls Bros jack. I was comparing it to the Little Shumate jack in the pic which was a tiny knife. The Pauls jack is actually a smallish jack at 3 5/16, show here with a Camillus 4 line.
One of the things I find interesting about the Pauls bros is they appear to be "as ground" blades.

Duncan, I look forward to working on your project, talk soon Brother.

Best regards

Robin

Have a great weekend folks

Nice knives, Robin!

Here's a new one for me. Nice full blades with the original edges. Some patina and a few specks of rust. Walks and talks like a new knife.

Agreed, superb knife! Gives new meaning to tip bolsters, they sure are tiny.

Those farmer jacks sure are awesome. I purchased a few of GEC's current models but they just don't have quite the same flair as some of these old specimens. Just wonderful.

Some of these I have shown before but there are some new ones here. At one time I collected Simmons (Keen Kutter) and Shapleigh (Diamond Edge) so being a hardware kind of guy going for John Pritzlaff Hardware (Ever Keen) out of Milwaukee was a natural fit for me. I have long ago sold the Simmons and Shapleigh collections but this one is just getting going. Similar quality in cutlery with Winchester, Remington, NYKC, and other being represented. This company was every bit the size and importance of Simmons and Shapleigh in its day.

Nice Remington Lobster:

I have virtually no knowledge of razors but they tell me examples such as this with a full tang wrap and carved horn are quite rare:

Wonderful Whittler:

This was right under my nose for years and until recently I was unaware. My city home is about two blocks from Concordia Seminary. John Pritzlaff was a devote Lutheran and gave many dollars to the church. These are some of his offerings at Concordia:

This appears over the doors to a hall he donated:
