"Old Knives"

Wow nice job on that Teardrop Jack, Primble!

Jd, Jake Primbs ...great knives being shown, and Primble my friend, that Catt is something else - whew!!!!

I am quite excited!!
I just won this on our local site here, you hardly EVER see an Ibberson here, I totally blame my mate Jack Black - as we were so so lucky to have such a long talk with the GREAT Stan Shaw - I think from memory it went for over an hour, and ever since then after hearing Stan talk of going to this company as young lad I have always desperately looked for this fairly elusive Brand, and Jack Black the darned fantastic guy you are my friend ( even though I am terrible with phone calls which I will mend soon - I DO think of you a lot buddy ) sent me an Ibberson - my first and a most precious knife, well the other day I bought a fantastic advertisement Knife with lovely full blades - and last night I won this great old Ibberson....Sellers Photo, but from what I can see the Hawk bill has had sharpening - and the shears look good - so obviously a Gardeners knife - Wow!!...

C'mon Mr mail man.....

Nick, that bone reminds me of an Ulster I have. I have said the same as you did,it looks like a precursor to the old Schrade peachseed.

Here's mine:

Beautiful Ulster Lyle ! :thumbup::thumbup::)

Two great knives Primble, You did excellent job on the challenge.

Mike

Great knives. Some very fine examples of beautiful jigged bone.

Primble,If I may ask?.....What do you use to make that
bone so beautiful on your knives?...Is it a polish,or just your camera?
Anyway,they're always so pristine covers......
What type camera do you use?....ETC???

Thanks for your reply,
JD

Thank you Mike, SK, and JD. I usually just clean the bone very thoroughly and then rub the bone briskly with a small microfiber towel. On many old knives that have seen quite a bit of pocket wear, the bone is pretty smooth and just needs a little TLC. A better camera just shows more detail and does nothing for shine, although the camera angle does have something to do with the shine being apparent in the picture. :)

Duncan - that Gardner's knife is really a swell piece ! :thumbup::thumbup::)

Rob,
I need you to clean my house. Nice job on the Challenge.

Although these are only 40-50 years old; for Duncan's sake.
Duncan,
Here's an ivory sowbelly Ibberson, guess who made it?

Although not marked on the liner as the ivory, I suspect the same fellow had a hand in making this one also:

I was just curious as to what brand camera you had?...Im thinking of an upgrade and I like your pictures....
Nothing to do with shine, etc.,just curious....Im looking at canon, but they're really expensive for the best ones.
Im using a vintage $60.00 samsung now,but It has it's limits,

C'mon Mr mail man.....

Congratulations my friend, that's an interesting knife. The blade looks similar to the one on the Pruner in the Action range. You're never far from my thoughts pal :)

Fantastic to see those two Lyle, just wonderful knives :) I love the 'Sheffield Make' stamp, it's so Sheffield! Pronounced "Sheffield mek"! :D

Neat find, Duncan! This pattern was made by/branded by a few companies. Hoffritz sold some in the USA that were made by Ibberson. I've also seen some of the knives branded Luna, Bonsa, Voss, and Edward Zinn. The pattern is in Joe Denard's reprint of a 1950s Voss Cutlery catalog.

Lyle, I'm very jealous! :D

Rob, wonderful job on the Challenge, cleaned just the right amount without taking any of the character away.

Lyle, beautiful old knives as always.

Good find Duncan, hope it shows up quick for you.

I usually use a Canon with a Canon 50mm Macro lens or with manual focus Zeiss Planar 50mm. :)

Stupendous knives!

I am so happy for you to get your hands on the Ibberson! Can't wait to see your lovely pictures of it!

that was the camera to have.....Im gonna tell santa, but im not gonna hold my breath till it gets here.
I would love to have one though.......Just have to make do with what I have.....JD

Picked up this New York Knife Co Hammer Brand teardrop the other day, pretty nice shape considering the age, still can make out some blade etch. Not sure what the wood is. Love the old spear blades.

That is the first one like that I have ever seen. Congratulations! :)

Thank you Gev, Rob. This one was a lucky find. What wood do you all think it is, I'm thinking rosewood, I seem to remember reading somewhere that NYK Co used a lot of rosewood. Couple of pics in the sun really showing the wood.

Thank you ALL for your very kind comments on the Ibberson, and Jack Sir- I went in to that site-which I tend to stay away from because of the dollar but Oh man, the example in there is just superb!
I know that the example is not the best that I have obtained - but all the same I think it will be a great knife - well I am hoping so, but isnt it disappointing when -like in my case - you score a knife - and think Wow- then the next day you actually see another in near mint condition lol :D :o

Augie Sir, I would say most definitely Rosewood on that lovely NYK - that knife is in beautiful order- LOVE that Shield Aug  Man...since you have come here you have obtained some absolutely stunning knives- and more than s few too my friend!

I hope it is absolutely stellar Duncan  The UK version of that site hasn't sold knives for several years (we might cut ourselves). It's probably stopped me making more clangers though! :D

So many great knives shown in this thread from beginning to present, with the only problem existing in the time it takes to re-visit all the posts.
Enclosed is a catalog cut which shows Campbellclanman's latest very unique find.
