"Old Knives"

I picked up a few knives in Sheffield the other day, including this Christopher Johnson, which I've got in my pocket today.

Cool knife Jack, interesting bolsters.

QUOTE=Jack Black;15801112]I've already shown this IXL Tobacco Knife, kindly gifted to me by Mike Berkovitch, in my last 'Table' thread (http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/1366732-Me-and-Betty-Grable), but thought I'd post a pic here too. Thanks again Mike :)

My pleasure

Awesome Sheffield's popping up, thanks for sharing those beauties!

Here's nice old Cattaraugus whittler, she's a beast too at over 4 inches. I really like the indian trails on this one!

Wow, that catt sure is a looker!

+1

Here is another old knife I picked up the other day, and an unusual one I think. I can't even find a name for this pattern, long spear and a spey on a single spring, tapers like a sleeveboard, but has square bolsters  There's nothing magnetic about it apart from the trademark :)

Duncan - very interesting advertising knife !:)
Thank you Primble my friend :)

I reckon so Duncan, here's a couple of examples of the same pattern - though I'm not sure what the second knife is advertising (beyond general inebriation)! :D

Thank You Jack Sir! - nice to see it's Brother with you my friend.

My favorite style of old knife, the original multitool, it cut and opened beer, what else was there?

Old Robeson with hand hammered scales.

Thank you. In Russia the knives of the Soviet times are popular collectibles. In my collection of about 50 of these knives. Here is the knife with the name of the city of Gorky. Now this city is renamed to Nizhny Novgorod

Wonderful and I like the history! Is there a particular use for the front part of the bottle opener blade? Or on second thought maybe its a can opener blade

Yes, it's a canned opener
Quite rare in Russia a knife-the fish and the knives. All of these knives were in my childhood. I'm a child sick knives. Now they have to buy again.
