"Old Knives"

Paul Hilborn :: Thanks for the show !!! The pictures are worth the price of admission my friend . It would be nice to know the stories that each of those old knives could tell . Just to know where they each have been would be something.
Congrats for a nice collection so far . I say ( so far ) because I do not think that you are done yet .

Harry

I had a lucky find yesterday, in the form of this ivory Sleeveboard by Croisdale of Leeds. Info on the company here:

http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/1256431-Coming-Home-to-Leeds

Tang-stamp reads: ‘Croisdale’ over ‘Leeds’ over ‘Briggate’ (their address). Knife appears unused.

Absolute English Beauties there Gents! I love it when you get these small pen Knives and yet the Workmanship is at such a high level, the Swedges on the small blades- just amazing stuff!

Gorgeous Sleeveboards guys, Jack that ivory one is immaculate besides the little speckling on the blades which to me is no detraction from the knife at all. It's just another reason to wanna use it. :)

SK, I love the character on the second Sleeveboard and the pearl on the pen has some nice fire in it. :)

Thanks for sharin' guys.

I don't know if this knife is old enough to be in this thread , but the people who should know will have a better idea of the age than I do.
A Kronenkrebs Camping or Sport Knife with Stag .Have been Chicken Eyeing this knife in a local shop for a while and they finally came down to what I wanted to pay today. Very solid knife in all aspects. Great Snap on all blades , saw , and corkscrew . Still needs to be cleaned up some and sharpened . Age is unknown to me . The company was started in about 1866 , but they were making knives until at least WWII . Blades are not stainless . Length of Knife = 4.125 // Main Blade = 3.0 // Skinner Blade = 2.06 // Saw = 3.06 // Corkscrew = 1.875 /// Thickness across handles = .75 /// Liners and Pins are brass /// Lined Bolsters appear to me to be Nickel Silver or German Silver .Very happy to find this one .
Size as compared to my 73

The markings are still readable on the blade if they are magnified . but it says : Kronenkrebs Solingen Germany and has the marking of the Double K with a Crown over it as is shown in this picture . Kronenkrebs was founded in 1866 by Carl Julius Krebs

If anyone can help with the aging of this knife , I would appreciate it.

Wonderful knives SK, as Duncan mentioned, such fine detail to those wee knives:thumbup:

Same Jack, your knife forays yield some wonderful pieces of cutlery. Always neat to see your treasures:thumbup:

Harry, what a knife!!! Just a treasure and I'd say certainly old, how old I'm not sure, but look at the full blades and the WONDERFUL STAG!!! A vintage knife after your own heart:D Duncan has one here that's very similar, I can't remember the maker off hand so I'll look here in the next day or two:thumbup:

Harry a very interesting knife indeed. Love that shadow stag and the skinner blade's tip. Looks like a knife made for a rugged life of hunting and trapping. It's so cool that you have it. Can't tell you it's age but I do thank you for showing it. Congratulations!!!

Lloyd, very impressive wheel of Schrades!!! All look in excellent condition, I'm enjoying them very much. -James

Thank you James . I am a happy guy when ever I get a new to me knife , but I am extremely happy to have found this one . I do not know if I would have bought it though if it was not Stag handled . I have looked a long time to get an Old Stag handled knife . It is not the best Stag , but it is Stag .

Harry, Thats a beauty my friend, nice to see, I would bet a few bucks that Kronenkrebs is a lot older than the Kronenkrebs that we saw that were prolificly flooding the market in the 60's and 70's in the Hunting and Scout type Fixed Blades! Im going to have a guess and say thats a 1930's 1940's knife?

Paul, not that I can remember too much of that German Folder now, but from a ( very poor ) memory - mine wasnt quite as old as Harry's?

Lloyd - Oh man those Old Schrades are just lovely knives!

Thanks Duncan . I hope that you are correct on the approximate age. It takes being that old to be older than me and that is one of my goals when I find old knives .

Thanks for the kind words folks, and for continuing to share your wonderful knives here, absolutely beautiful fellers

My dad's EDC. Anyone got a smaller one?

My dad who is 83 next month has been carrying this "knife" around in his wallet for over 50 years. I've never seen it used for anything. It was possibly for cleaning out a pipe bowl or something but dad never smoked either. Anyone shed some light on this tiny thing?
