"Old Knives"

Very beautiful I*XL folder herder! Are those Ebony handles? What is the closed length? Thanks Lloyd

That Wostenholm looks new! I mean in great shape.

The black crud is coming off my Robeson pretty easily, and seems to have scarcely chewed through the plating.

Thanks again for the appreciation. I'm pretty excited about this one.
(It's really nothing like a giant peanut except for the forward bolster, now I've compared them.)

Those are some fantastic pruners Paul . What a way to start 2017 . What are you going to do for an encore now ?????????

Harry

Thank you Harry, I see more Pruners in my future:o:D

Oh Lordy !

Mike- my friend- that's a beauty that you gifted Paul- I feel I am WAY more deserving of that Pruner than some guy in a baron land just south of the Canadian border line:D:thumbup:
Seriously Mike- that's awesome and well done matey- Paul .... well deserved my friend - That KaBar is absolutely Stunning- What an amazing find.
Looks like its game on in the Pruner field eh;):D

Well now Duncan Id have to second that your more deserving then me but...HEY, no way, Mike made the right choice:eek::D AGAIN, Many, Many thanks Mike, I love the RUSSELL!!!

Awesome knives Mike, Lloyd, Jake, Jamie (now Glenbadd, I believe), and Charles. Lloyd, that NYK is just incredible. I'm a sucker for spey mains. Great pruners, Paul - fantastic Russell and beautiful bone on the Ka-Bar.

Thank you John, the bone is so nice in hand, just a wee bit of swell to the mark side which fills the hand nicely:thumbup:

Nice brace of Hawks, Paul!
Both top echelon old knives!! I couldn't choose between them.

Thank you as well Charlie, I am smitten with both but the RUSSELL is so nice:thumbup:

Paul, you're batting 1.000 lately with vintage brown bone! Beautiful knives!

Thanks Barrett, I've had some luck finding these of Late, just trying to keep pace with all the many great knives being posted here. Speaking of which, where is our friend John, Augie:confused:

Two fantastic pruners Paul, I am glad you like the Russell.
Thanks guys,

Mike

Mike, thank you so much for the wonderful RUSSELL, such a fine crafted piece of cutlery. I very much appreciate your kindness and your friendship:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

redsparrow, two fantastic knives, what a wife!!! sentimental knife for sure:thumbup: That CASE is unreal, just look at that vintage red bone:eek::cool:

Screened Porch, I love that Robeson POCKETEZE knife, those shields are some of the best:cool::thumbup:

Thank you.
I uncovered the other tang stamp, and they don't match, but they agree in that their years of use overlap. The arched ROBESON/CO./CUTLERY WAS 1900-1916. The straight ROBESON/ShurEdge/U.S.A. is listed twice: 1911-1921 and 1916-1939 or so. So 1911-1916 if the blades are original and the chart is accurate and I read it right.

Very interesting knife Rostovsky:cool:

A couple of vintage beastly pruners. The first is an Eye Witness Sheffield Pruner. This is without a doubt the biggest baddest Pruner I have handled:eek: in essence this beast is a fixed blade!!! I say that only due to one of the strongest springs EVER:D

This is a WONDERFUL knife!!! Strong, SOLID and centered blade with a snap one can hear from your neighbors house:eek: Beautiful wood covers with a bail to boot. This was gifted to me from Duncan with traces back to our Sheffield historian Jack Black:thumbup: THANK YOU gentleman for this grand old Pruner.

Next is a CASE Pruner with simply the nicest covers I've ever owned. Amazing indian trail jigged bone covers:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

It sports a worn circa 1920-1940 tang stamp, steel liners with a rock solid near full blade. Just two great Pruners that I'm fortunate to add to a small yet growing collection.

Thank you. If you don't mind, I'll show some more of the knives of the Soviet Union. They are all old, age 30-40 years, if not more. Not less, certainly.

Yes, please do, I think I speak for all here as this is the reason we are here. Old knives from around the world are always of interest:cool:

Smashing pruners, Paul! I love the character of them both. Very special indeed.

Scrteened porch
I just love the size, the bone, the shield, the shape! I want one...lol

I am going to have to put on a bib every time you post some new Old Ones if you keep this up my friend .
I am really anxious to see the tang stamp on the Eye Witness . I want to see the EYE !!!!!!

Harry

Interesting curved secondary blade. Not sure that I have ever seen one exactly that shape.
Could someone comment on its purpose?

I've seen something similar on a bartender/sommelier's knife for opening the foil from a champagne cork.

Gev and Harry, thank you both. Harry I tried to get the tang stamp on the eye witness but the heavy patina obscures it. Will see if I can angle it in the right light:thumbup:
