"Old Knives"

Charlie,

Your assuming I have morals to corrupt!

Thanks for the drawing and scans and explanation. This would be a challenge for sure.

Thanks again

I wish this was half as nice as Charlie’s:

I’ve probably written this before, but there are an amazing number of pocketknives and hunting knives in my Henckels catalogs with corkscrews.

Mike

That's because Germans were proud of being prepared for the "hunt"; in every sense of the word!!;)

Charlie,

You're assuming I have morals to corrupt!
Ken

Ken, I didn't mean to presume; sorry:p

And Elliott, thank you for reminding me of "hunts" past!:)

Call me a prude, but this thread is getting entirely too racy for me. I'm outta here while you guys discuss your past (failed) hunts.

:DKinda late to the game here but hunting is like the diet and menu addage! Just because your on a diet don't mean ya can't look at the MENU!!:p Well I can hunt all I (you) want just don't pull the trigger!! HEE HEEE:eek:

Oh yea Charlie that is a really SWEET lookin darlin!!!!ummm Knife;)

Before you go, Mike, are those all Henckels knives, and in your collection? Some nice knives there!!

See ya:p!!

Elliott Ole Dog you've been hunting, what does that mean in your wifes language?:D

Where's Sgt. Schultz when I need him? :p

Oh, hunting for jewelry for her, of course. ;)

Okay folks, let's move on, nothing to see here... :D

Picked up this Shapleigh recently. 3 3/8". Great springs and solid half stops.
Nothing real unusual about it, but its in pocket now as I head to work.

Interesting bone on that one, Mike. Nice find.

Made by Schrade for Shapleigh Hardware. I've seen that jigging on a number of Schrades. It may have been from one of the set-ups George Schrade did with the jigging machine he invented. Here's a Schrade based on the same handle (not an HJ though; sniff), 3 3/8".
You can see the jig is the same, although the color is not as nice as Mike's. Nice HJ, BTW!!

I have come to think of that jigging as Schrade "basketweave", because of its crisscross character. It is the fourth type of jigging I have differentiated on the old Schrades.

Mike, that ones got a personality all its own.
navihawk

Stag handles, a sack/repair needle; Mike, that's a beautiful knife!
An unused knife is like a Barbie Doll. Worth a second glance, but not much conversation available. Hasn't BEEN anywhere!!

:D

Just for you George!
Here's a snooty relative of the Schrade Sportsmen's knife, back a bit in this thread. A pearl handled Empire Tourist's knife. The Post Office has been good to me lately, as I just got this one.
Similar construction as the Schrade, but a little smaller. Consequently both backsprings are cut out, to receive the screw.

Thats a beauty.. Very interesting lanyard (?). I have to ask, how did that come to be? It looks fairly long. Thanks for the info about the Shapleigh too, much appreciated.

From the 1926 Schrade Catalog. Just how they done it! Danged if it isn't a dead ringer. I added a picture of the big brother. Slightly longer knife, and a slightly longer chain.

Great knife Charlie, and she still has her chain

338375, that is a button loop on the end of the chain. a button will pass through the wide end and then the loop is pulled down (to the end that looks like the top of a bell) and it would stay behind the button, then just drop the knife in your pocket
