"Old Knives"

A fine, brotherly pair of Pruners, Paul - both outstanding in their own right!
All the sweeter being from your Kiwi Brother!!

A customer of mine knew I liked pocket knives so he gave these to me today. He pulled these out of tool box. Turns out he owned a hardware store in the past. He says he sold a lot of Uncle Henry's made by Schrade Walden.

1940-1964 Case Sodbuster - I have already used this one. This is my first Sodbuster and must say that it feels really good in the hand when cutting.

Sabre brand barlow? The bolster might be aluminum and the handles are some sort of plastic.

I love the sod buster! Something about an honest working man's knife, nothing fancy, is just so appealing. I love the pretty ones too, but these are beautiful in a whole different way. http://m.imgur.com/account/WilliamBrettschneider/images/H6tgvNa
If my photo works you'll see one of my favorite no frills old working knives, an old imperial cattle knife with a spear point. Actually I'm not sure if this is a cattle knife or a stock man. Does the cigar handle make it a cattle knife?

View attachment 704750 Paul, those are two outstanding Pruners! The handles are gorgeous on both. The range of colors in that spectacular jigged bone is incredible and the wood handles on the larger Pruner are "top notch" also. What great quality they both exude. Congratulations on two wonderful additions:thumbsup::thumbsup:. Lloyd

Spectacular, Paul! Both are superb. Not sure which one I like better.

Travman, love the Sodbuster!!! There's something about a well used knife and that could tell tales for sure.
I'm sure one of the things this knife would say would be, "please don't put me on the sharpening wheel again."

Amazing knives. I love the wood on the first one. I bet it is gourgeous in person. I assume it is rosewood. The shield on this one is impressive. I like the way they shaped it to the curve of the handle.

Charlie my friend these particular two AMAZING Pruners aren't from my collection- I wish they were that's for sure!

I will always continue to pick up Pruners as I love them so very much.
I have just been moved so much by Paul and his love of them as well - of course I have kept my Pruners gifted to me and will continue to pick them up- Paul has been so incredible to me with gifting me some unbelievable knives and just saw this as a small way of trying to say thank you to a friend.

Pruners will always be a facination of mine.

Paul matey.
Amazing simply outstanding Knives. I will need to come back and have another look at these beauties.
I just can't believe how beautiful those two are. Well done my friend.

paulhilborn paulhilborn Paul my friend I just had to come back in and have another look at Paul's new Pruners- OH man!!! that Remington Bone is simply superb-! just amazing- That will slot very nicely with your neat Wooden Remington Pruner- same size from memory?
The N.Y Knife Co Hammer Brand- Oh man!! What a delight to see this Knife. Paul keep this up and your collection will be( as it is now in actual fact ) one to be talked about in Knife circles! I am so pleased to see you picking these stunners up as I dont know a person who deserves them more than you.

Lovely knives Paul. I guess Pacific used that one to kill vampires in the bat's cave.

The Remington is astounding.

Here's another old Waterville - whether this knife is called a serpentine, dogleg, reverse peanut or just a peanut jack is up in the air for me as I have heard all pending who commented on the pattern name based on this knife :)... I only know it is a solid old knife with nice jigged bone - a 3" Waterville Jack... Thanks for looking!

Cheers!

Longblade that is indeed a beautiful vintage barehead jack! Love the bone jigging, the flat bolster and the svelte Serpentine flow of the handle. Exudes quality and craftsmanship:thumbsup::thumbsup:. Excellent acquisition, Lloyd
