"Old Knives"

Augie- NICE grouping of Ebonies my friend- each k ice in there is just a fantastically built Knife!!!!

Your latest Ulster is A beautiful Knife- everything about it is just great.
With that Stunning Peach- Seed would it be safe to say Schrade built?

Thanks Duncan, it might fall under Schrade ownership, maybe a more knowledgable knife nut knows.

I don't think I'm that knowledgeable person, but I agree John. I have an Ulster stockman with your same tang stamp and it's origins sure scream Schrade peechseed. They're just BEAUTIFUL knives you showed:thumbsup:

Thanks Augie, I apologise about the predictive texting my phone loves to take control with :(

This knife isnt any tremendous, but I must admit I like it very much, relatively plain, but from a great maker and is a very tidy old(ish ) Knife.
Ever since I met Mr Jack Black, and he educated me about Stan and where Stan began his younger years at Ibberson- well that kinda did it for me, and I always like to stop and have an extra look at any Ibberson that comes up.
This 3 & 1/4 inch ( closed )Horn scaled Equal ended Jack is quite a cool and a very well built Knife as you would expect from this tremendous Cutler Firm, Nickel Silver Bolsters and Shield.

the nice Blades sport the Stamping of Ibbersons Trade Mark- always a welcomed sight, also the "Hand Forged" Stamping.....
The Main is a Sleek Spear Point with nice Swedge work- the Pile side actually has a slightly deeper Swedge which looks real nice, this Knife hasnt had a lot of use, and I welcome it Home here to New Zealand ( please forgive the wipe marks on the Blades- Renaissance Wax ) :)

I like this Shot - shows the Knife for what it is, a very nice Vintage Jack- so wonderfully built, I must admit I always sneak a wee look inside the Liners hoping for the Elusive SS initials - but alas not with this one:)

BEAUTIFUL Jack Duncan!!! GORGEOUS covers, perfect size, what a knife my friend:cool::thumbsup:

LESSONS TO BE LEARNT

I recently had this HJ arrive, I was kinda looking forward to seeing it, but the knife is all wrong, and appreciate your thoughts on the knife - I dont think it takes an expert to see what I am talking about.

I thought in the low quality photos the main had been cleaned, and to be honest I saw the knife- didnt look at it too hard, and heres what happens...
Immediately when I un-packaged the knife something was wrong, well it seems the Main has been replaced, I have taken a few photos so you guys can have a look, at the risk of exposing myself as a doofus - its good to discuss this sort of thing, I thought I was past this stage.

I have bought a few knives of people- who know a lot more than me, and when I unpack the knife and find faults - fairly major - to me this is simply not on- especially when being told that " oh that one I didnt notice"...REALLY? do you sell Burritos or Knives?

This HJ has the same frame as a Stunning WESTERN STATES BOULDER HJ that was so generously gifted to me- it's an exceptional HJ, and so when I saw this one with a similar frame and real nice old Bone - I thought" Oh cool.. :(
so here it is... What was a Theo.M.Green &Co OKLA. CITY HJ ......

If it hadnt been apparent before that the Main should not be there- this shot says it all....

I see what your saying Duncan, obvious in the first pics but so much so in the last. Aging is different, no tang stamp and off in the spine to spring relation. I've been in the same situation and was angered at myself. I like it better when someone else is at fault:p I hate being human:D truly though, the bone and punch are beautiful:thumbsup:

Haha - yes...its always ok looking at others pointing out their mistakes- this was a good one I can tell you- as soon as I unwrapped the knife and saw the Blade Colour - I thought- "oh no..."

Thank you Paul my friend, sorry we didnt get to chat matey

I also understand the disappointment in lack of information in the sellers listing. I've had those issues in the past even with knife specific sellers:rolleyes::eek:

That is a shame! I think we all have or have had a knife (knives) with that kind of history or issues in our collections. There is no way to avoid that outcome at times for a variety of reasons. Fortunately you sharing your experience will educate or reconfirm how careful one has to be when buying a vintage knife via the Internet in whatever selling venue. For that alone I thank you! With a vintage folder that potentially compelling sometimes our good senses are bullied into retreato_O. Duncan your collecting prowess is well documented and this kind blunder happens to all of us. It has happened to me I am afraid more than once:(. Too many burrito salesmen in the vintage knife community:eek: Lloyd

Been there, and done that!!:eek::rolleyes:
A rare stamping on the punch; never heard of that one. Levine says Domar Cutlery, 1916-1920:eek: no wonder it's rare!!! - probably made by Utica going by the punch.
Not a total loss!

Congratulations Duncan, absolutely fantastic old Ibberson :) :) Are there any marks at all on the liners?

Too busy posting, I missed that Ibberson! Real nice score, Duncan!!
Beautiful knife with exhibition-grade Horn scales! Please post it in the Hornswoggled thread!!

Paul, Charlie and Lloyd..
Thanks you all for your kind and helpful comments, I surprised myself with that one.
Charlie- MOST helpful with those Punches, I too picked up on the Rare name on the Punch, if you wanted to ever display a Punch line-up- I would be glad to send this Knife to you.

Yes my friend I shall post the Ibberson in the Horn Thread for sure, I will do that tonight when I get home :)

I think this little group of NYKc. fit in this thread.
